cruising revs ?

I was sitting in my friends auto car and I noticed that if he was crusing on straight roads the rev needle will only be like 1300-1500 rpm and it shifts at like 2200 rpm

but when I cruise at less than 2000rpm on my car (its a stick) i feel like theres more vibration... kinda like just when u approach stalling when the engine is really weak, kinda like that...

am I not supposed to cruise around 1500 rpm? if so how come an auto car can do taht without the same vibration happeneing?

Hmm, this is a great post.

Your saying his auto crusies at below 2k rpm, how fast are you going , like 15 mph cause that is really low.

Your car shouldnt feel like its stalling out anytime when moving.

you and your friend both drive the same car with the same engine right? otherwise your comparison is useless.

what kinda car? engine? my friend has a 1990 Q45, its a V8, or V6. his car cruises around too and like never goes over 3rpms. This is because he has a huge *** engine i supposed and it doesnt need to rev all high to get the same power as our 4 bangers. see what im sayin? just a thought....

His car is geared for highway crusing, hence the low rpm. It will help that big gas sucker engine of his to get decent gas mileage.

his car is ford focus zx3 .... very similar engine. 130hp too.
at a constant speed of about 35mph on a flat straight road the revs were about 1500rpm

not to mention you are comparing an AUTO to a stick....its apples and oranges....they are not the same.....his auto doesn't have 5 gears....your stick does......his auto allows SLIP in the torque converter...your stick/clutch does NOT.....its just not the same.....you can't truely compare the two.
