I also agree with Phantom and Jackelope. You gotta keep the P5 for a daily at least.
If that hurts you financially a little, there are several older, less-popular "muscle" cars that won't set you back 25-30k (or probably more!). Chevelles, Camaros and Impalas with the SS badge will always cost more (yeah, I like old Chevys best). You could look, for example, for a 67-69 Chevelle without the SS badge thats still got the 396 and build the motor up a little. It'll cost you half what an SS would and even stock, the 396 is a hell of an engine.
Although I personally prefer the small blocks (283 and 327).
But, you know, it doesn' have to be a Chevy. The '63 pre-Mustang Ford Falcons are one of my favorite cars of all time!

I agree, that idea seems to be the best. But one thing, if you havent been able to "wrench away" on the P5, whats going to make it any different with something else...?

Damn good point. I haven't been "investing" in the P5 because I have been budgeting for my wedding, which is coming up soon (July 22).

As far as the muscle car goes, it is ultimately going to go on the back burner for awhile, and I am going to keep the P5. But man, how I would just LOVE to do something totally irresponsible, cash out some of my 401K and buy the badass car of my dreams.

Well, ****, why don't we? I mean, we aren't going to live forever, right? As much as I adore my P5, I would find it pretty depressing to think of it as the coolest car that I will ever own. That lofty statement belongs to one of the following:

1) 1982+ Porsche 911 SC 3.0
2) 1979 C3 Corvette L82 4-speed
3) BMW M3 (the latest and greatest, please. No manumatic for me)
4) Early seventies Datsun 240Z (mint, stock down to the dog dish hubcaps and diamond pleat upholstery)
5) C6 Corvette Z06 (but if the list is too long, I'll settle for the last of the C4s, in the limited "Grand Sport" trim)
6) Lotus Esprit V8 (that'd be the last one)
7) Caterham Super Seven (any year is fine)
8) Citroen DS19 (gotta love hydropnuematic suspension)
9) Original Austin/ Morris Mini (in full Cooper trim, pre-stripped for rally please)
10) Subaru WRX STI (screw all season radials - I'll keep the sticky stock ones... and the fin is going on e-Bay)
11) AMC Javelin, AMX, Hornet 390, S/C Rambler... a recent affliction
12) Datsun 510
13) Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser (that would be the ancient Jeepish one, and I would want the Chevrolet 350 conversion)

And there are countless others... all oddball choices, you'll notice. That's because there is nothing at all rational about car enthusiasm. If there was, we would all be driving Camrys, wouldn't we?

Wow I'm glad to see so many Chevelle fans out there. Some of y'all need to spell it right though.
Just kidding, mine moves too fast to read it anyway.

My father-in-law has a '72 land cruiser w/ a built 350 in it - he said top speed on it is like 40mph, but when you kick, front wheels almost come off the ground

I love pre-emission-law Chevelles.
But my favorites are the '64-'66 boxy ones.

Watch Barret-Jackson auctions on speed TV , Chevelle SS big bolck cars are going for six figures...... a plain one is 25K yikes - this for a car with 4 wheel drum brakes. You can buy a Lotus 7 kit that uses all Mazda Miata parts for 9k , A early Miata can be had for 2k so 11K will buy a car that accelerates like the Chevelle and handles like a formula car , albeit a front engined one. That would be my pick. I've had several daily driver classics , American , Swedish and Japanese. They were all cool but you do give up a lot of creatue comforts as well as having to put up with shorter maintenance intervals.
