Check Engine/Rough Idle

Hello,

I hope this is not the beggining of the downward spiral, but, this morning my "Check Engine Light" came on. The engine runs, but at Idle it is sputtering below 1000 RPM. Once I get on the gas and into the gears its fine. It has not died on me yet. At lights it feels like it will. Could this be idle speed or something more complex?? I have a cone filter and bullet exhaust...hope those are not causing problems!

Thanks!

get the codes pulled. autozone can tell you what the codes are, and what the definition is, but they cannot help you diagnose a car. remember! an OBD2 code pulled from the PCM does not equate the problem, and hardly ever does. get the codes and post it back up here.

It may also be your MAF That happened to me awhile back w/my MP3. If it is still covered under warranty take out the cone filter put back your airbox and tell your mazda dealer your problem. That should be covered. At least mine was they gave me a new MAF and sent me on my way. Pretty sweet.

If you're running a K&N or Monsterflow filter (foam and oil based filter) then it's possible some of the oil got onto the MAF sensor and is causing it to give an error. I think you can clean it off with either carb/brake cleaner...one of them corrodes, so don't use that one

WHY CANT YOU JUST GET THE CODES FROM VATOZONE AND LIST THEM.

chucking parts at a car is pointless. why play darts blindfolded, when someone can just guide your hand to the bullseye...

a bad IAC, a vacuum leak, a failed MAF, a bad IAT sensor, a failed ECT sensor, a singular bad coil-on-plug can also do it. why doesn't he just take $1000 down to the mazda house and fix everything i listed? oh wait. thats right. because he doesnt know whats wrong. but he does have a CEL and therefore a continuous code/hard fault was set.

i like your type at my dealership. you're the guy that ***** bricks when i hand him an estimate, because he thought he could just play stick-it-on with parts and hope he nails it.

"almost" only counts with horseshos and hand grenades. the only thing that resembles either of these would be your car's motor as it makes its own uni-bomber impersonation.

haha love that last line. bring it to mazda. get them to check it. if it IS the EGR valve or another valve it is likely covered under warrenty and fixed for free. Free sure as hell beats trying to figure it out and guessing for days.
