Can't anyone send me what I actually ordered?

You know, folks - I don't always have the best of luck with internet orders. Take, for instance, the set of Mazdaspeed mats that I ordered several months back for my P5. I clicked on the picture, added it to the cart, and called it a day. Then a set of totally different Mazdaspeed mats (for a Miata, no less) arrived. So, I had to contact Rosenthal and have them send me a return shipping label, so I could get rid of the wrong mats and have them send me the right ones. They did, and quickly. But, my Mazdaspeed shift **** was on backorder for ages. I finally cancelled that order, and had my local dealership get one in.

So today, I am super excited to wander out back to the receiving area at my work, where my set of Flik Lex wheels and Hankook tires have just been dropped off by DHL. I take off the banding, and lo and behold, there are only four holes for the studs. I am a little puzzled by this, because I selected my car from a drop-down menu when I ordered the bundle from Edge Racing, and I assumed that they would know better that the 2003 Protege5 is a five lug car. I left a message with them, to send me a return shipment label and get the correct bundle over to me ASAP. I'll let you guys know how this one turns out. Could just be an honest mistake, and I will withold judgement on Edge Racing until this is resolved.

But I have to ask.... can't any of the mail order companies out there selling Mazda parts get it right the first time?

Who was it, Matty?

What did they do to you, did they keep you in a pit for seven days and feed you live snakes? Or, did they just mess up your order?

Good luck. Truthfully, there have been times when everything has gone as planned. Nopi, Summit, Modern Performance, and countless others have done a great job in the past. But, this kind of mix-up is exactly why quality systems and certifications were invented in the workplace.

And, it seems to be happening more frequently to me lately. Have I been marked?

My Ordeal with Edge Racing

Okay, folks. You let me know if you think this is acceptable service.

12/19 - Order placed online through Edge Racing - 4 x Flik Lex alloy wheels, plus 215 40 R17 tires, for my 2003 Mazda Protege5. Package ordered from a drop down menu, specifically for the car.

12/20 - Set up auction on E-Bay to sell factory wheels and tires. Auction set to begin on 12/27, set to end on 01/06. Perfect, I thought. I should have my new rims by then, and the old ones would be sold, helping to cover the cost of the new ones. And it seemed as though there was plenty of time overlap.

12/28 - Package arrives. I un-bundle all wheels and inspect them. Wheels are four lug. P5 only sold with 5-lug. Invoice says "Protege" on it. Drop down menu said Protege5. Confirmation E-mail said Protege5. This is not my mistake.

12/28-01/03 - Edge Racing out of the office on break. No one manning the phones. Meanwhile, it is one of the warmest weeks on record for this time of the year in Detroit (50's), and the roads dry up. Would have been perfect for trying out the grip on a new set of tires.

01/03 - My day off, partially spent re-banding and wrapping wheels for return shipment to Edge Racing.

01/04 - Spoke with customer service representative, who assured me they would try to get the correct order out that day.

01/06 - Ordered wheel locks, which I was told would arrive one day after wheels.
I predict wheels to arrive on 01/06 or 01/07, per the transit times on DHL's website.

01/10 - Wheel locks arrive. No sign of the wheels.

01/11 - Recieve notification by e-mail that wheels went out on 01/10, ETA 01/13. We'll see if they are right this time.

01/14 - Predicted to slide from the forties into the single digits, with plenty of snow. Looks like I won't get a chance to see what the new tires will do for some time.

I am sure glad that I did not sell my stock wheels and tires on E-bay as planned! That auction ended on 01/06. I was counting on Edge Racing getting it right the first time. Or maybe shipping on time the second time. If the auction had gone through, my P5 would be sitting on blocks right now, and I would be bumming rides to work! You see, I wouldn't inconvenience my customers, even if I was inconvenienced.

That picture is great!

Well, I am hoping for no more problems. Matty Mooling, hopefully your rims are worth the wait. I know mine will be.

Only one more worry, when I actually DO get them. I had 205 40 R17 tires on Konig Rated R Racing wheels on my previous sport compact. I bought those from Discount Tire. I swear, I took them back three times to correct the balance. I don't know if due to the smaller and stiffer sidewall wheel/tire imbalance is that much more pronounced in a low pro setup, but steering wheel judders at 70mph on the freeway was terrible. Either the balancing was way off, or it just has to be dead-nuts-on with 40 series tires. Anyhow, I hope to God that I don't have to get these wheels and tires rebalanced umpteen times after I bolt 'em up to my P5.

Anybody else have a similar experience?
