Brand switch.

Just curious to see how many people switched to Mazda out of a Honda. I decided to switch after owning a 99 Prelude that just quit running, traded it in on the P5, and I have a 2001 Civic which is on its 3rd tranny, waiting the arrival of a new MPV. I switched to Honda because back in the mid 90's, Mazda was not building anything appealing, now I know I will never leave Mazda again. So who else switched from a Honda?

Same here. Been trying 2 different Honda Civic since I got license like 7 yrs ago. It's great but the latest offerings from Honda are kinda dull...

I'm pretty sure that Honda executives are aware of this trend.

Just recently traded in for my P5: Black Honda Civic 2000 LX Sedan
prior to that: Black Civic Si 1991

Great resale value....but, I prefer Mazda now!!

I switched to my MP5 from a 1988 Honda Prelude Si. I have to admit that I loved my Prelude. It had over 165,000 miles on it, and was still amazingly fast for a little 4-banger. I wish my MP5 was as fast.

I'm not sure of your age, but the late 90's was the best for Mazda, so many cool Mazda's, you could go to a Mazda lot and choose between a turbo 323, turbo mx-6, turbo 626, or a turbo RX-7, plus, the had the best looking trucks then also.

It seems Mazda is finally getting back to that time! Well, except for the trucks!

Nissan was the fricking coolest car company the first half of the 90's!

They philosophically frickin' lost it after that. They dropped the Z. The Altima was always stupid. The almighty Maxima got porky and diluted. The almighty SE-R the same. No more NX2000. Same with the economical rear-wheel drive 240, the only of its kind. Drove a 93 SE-R for 10 years through high school, college, and grad school. It was a great car.

Drove a V-Spec amongst other things before settling on a Mazda. It was fast. But it did nothing for me emotionally. Cramped and ugly as crap outside and inside compared to the Protege. Faster yes, but the Protege platform has a lot more handling potential. And there's eventually time to save up for the post warranty mythical "turbo"

With cars, it's like the saying, I may be fat, but you're ugly and I can diet.
Actually it's the opposite, because all the good cars have gotten fat... and they _can't_ diet.

There's only a couple car companies that understand _driving_ at a given time. One is always BMW (at least, but I fear BMW is getting fatter by the year.... but hopefully the upcoming 1- and 2- series will fix that). Another is Porsche, but that is only a dream for most of us.
Mazda is one now. Honda and Nissan might have used to be those, but they bore the hell out of me now. (Yes I realize Hondas can blow most of us away, but IMHO the last real driver cars that Honda made were the old GSR's and CRX's) oh well I'll shut up

My last car was a 300ZX turbo. It was nice, but it also had alot of stuff that I would never get on a vehicle(I bought it used).
The protege dosen't have the pick up I've been used to obviously, but it has alot of things that I liked.
For a base car the handling is good and it also has good stopping ability and is fuel friendly.
I was looking at a Honda, but was turned off from even looking at them by their arrogent attitudes..

i had a 99 civic. not the best car to be rear ended in and pushed into another vehicle. didn't hold up like i thought. honda's looks have went downhill. i got hooked on mazda after i test drove the pro and p5. with 2 kids we were looking for a decent looking 4 door and settled on the p5. i couldn't go back to a honda.

Had an '01 Type-R, a '99 GS-R Sedan, a '99 TL, and a '97 Civic. Out of all of them, miss the R for speed, but don't miss any of them for practicality and quality. Mazda is top notch, just need "50 more HP".

Keep em' coming. I love it that Honda is losing buisness to Mazda. I agree with you Mazdanewbie, even though my 2001 Civic EX is branded a japanese maker, it was built in Ohio, and it shows. This is why in one year Mazda went from a deficit of 6 billion to a profit of 300 million last year. They are going back to their roots, easing there way away from Ford a little. And all of their non-Ford cars are still built in Hiroshima.
