I read somewhere, I believe it was the erebuni website, that installing the japanese spec headlights required modification to the housing.
Just a thought before you dive into this project.

You don't need Jspec to get the black headlights for the P5 they are on Canadian models as of 03.

The 2003 Protege 5 , Protege and 2001+ Protege ES have black headlight inserts . They can be bought at Canadian dealers as OEM or in a junkyard if you can find one scraped. I seen a post ( headlights )on making US spec lights look like the Canadian spec ones.

Hey guys, those are NOT jdm lights. They are normal lights with either the reflector removed and painted black,or just opened up and painted black. This guy is not legit DO NOT BUY THESE POS lights. You can do the exact same thing he did yourself! The real jdm lights are dual beams, they are glass, beam pattern is different, and they have led that reflect on to the high beam reflector for the parking lights. Save your hard earned cash!!

There is two sets of jdm headlight pics here in this thread. Look at the difference.
http://www.promazda.com/showthread.p...highlight=leds

The 99 ones are the same, dual beam and led parking lights, But they are not black they are chrome!

Thanks alot for the info ghost.

BTW-- I looked on the promazda site to see the difference and I noticed you mentioned something about LED. Is that the little opening above the turn signal?

well, I don't know if that's JDM or not because I can't tell from the picture. But he has many other black housing headlights for sale at a time so I am sure that must be from somewhere instead of he made it by himself. Don't you think? That's what I think!
