Bad Rumors about the Protege5

I've been hearing.. these complaints frequently about the Protege5, any of you experience this?

1. Engine Rattles in cold.. when I went to the dealership, the lady revved up the engine to hide it..

2. Cruise Control doesn't work.

3. Wind Noise because of the roof rack.

4. Hard to find a place to rest arm.

Is Mazda ever going to fix this? I heard Mazda knows about this, but not doing anything about it.

1. I live in very cold Vermont and haven't noticed this.

2. If your CC doesn't work, then go get it fixed, that's what a warranty is for. I've had no problems.

3. Well.. duh! Take it off if it bothers you that much. I don't know of ANY roof rack that is silent. It's a near-aerodynamic impossibility.

4. If this is an issue for you, then you should notice it on the test drive and not buy the car. Not a problem for me, my left arm rests comfortably on the door.

Remember, just because a couple of people mention an issue or 2 doesn't mean something horrible is affoot. People nitpick and think outloud especially on internet BB's. And remember that the small number of members here represents the tinyest fraction of total Progtegé owners out there.

1) My engine has NEVER rattled in the cold even in temps of -35C!

2) My cruise sometimes does not work in the cold.

3) don't know, my ES GT has no roof rack

4) Never had a problem, I usually have my hand on the shifter so I don't notice the lack of armrest.

Overall I am VERY happy with my Protege and think they are likely one of the best cars sold today in terms of quality. Of all the make specific message boards I've been on this one has the fewest complaints of QC issues.

1) No rattles for me

2) Cruise didn't work yesterday, cause there is a button that says "main" behind the buttons for the cruise, which is basically the on/off button for the cruise, which I never noticed until yesterday

3) Roof rack wind noise???naa...just take the stinking thing off...unless you are Clark Griswald or put a bike or ski's or snowboard on your roof, there is no need for it!

4) Lack of arm rest???? door and console works just fine for me....

Good Luck!

No problems I bought 2 Proteges any questions

The only thing I need to get is a wind deflector for the P5 my ES does not need one because it does not have a roof rack to make noise.

yeah, it rattles slightly at about 2700 rpms when it's cold, but it stops after about 5 minutes, once it's warmed up. Doesn't bother me really since 95% of the time I warm my car up in the winter for about 10 minutes before I drive it.

The roof racks' noisy, but as the other people said, take it off.

Cruise works fine for me.

Plenty of arm room.

I have the rattle thing at around 2700. Does anyone know what it could be from, I got really scared the first time I heard it. Its a very light tinny rattle if that makes any sense. Other than that, I love my P5 and theres nothing wrong with it. I can deal with the noise from the roof rack because i like the look and my cruise works fine.

Hey Kenji, you are being too picky. I know how it is. I was the same way. A car is a big purchase, my biggest to date. These are really are not problems. I had my P5 since NOV, and have had no problems other than a Ding on my windowshield from a rock and a scratched shifter. The Cruise work fine, and no rattles. Don't worry about it. THe car rocks!

nope...no rattle in the engine
wind noise? not that I notice....wonder if that has something to do with the volume of the music?
cruise control? works like a champ on mine...never failed me once.
arm rest? well the one on the door works fine....the console is useless unless you are alike 6'5" and have the seat totally to the rear....then it wouuld serve okay I guess.

these are minor little things......if they weren't....I wouldn't have gone out and baught TWO! we love our P-5's

My P5 doesnt really rattle when its cold, but it does make a load noise at first when I start it up after not using it for a couple of hours. Is this what you are talking about?

That is one of my only rants abou the car. Sometimes the noise is very load. Its sort of like a load humming noise. Anyone know what im talking about?

Other than that, I wouldnt trade my P5 for any other car under $30,000

Kenji:

[1] Define "cold." My engine never rattles, but we don't exactly get a lot of what I'd call "cold" here in Texas.

[2] My cruise control has always worked.

[3] I've been over the roof rack noise before several times, this has come up on several other threads. Not a big deal.

[4] Yes, the center console is a little small as an armrest for the right arm and the door sill has the stupid lock button sticking up as far as the left arm goes, but usually my arms aren't looking for a place to rest, anyway--left hand on wheel, right hand on shifter. Also not a big deal.
