Auto-lock?

Does anyones car automatically lock after a period of time driving? I thought I read it somewhere in the manual or net. My last car automatically locked all the doors when you started driving. Is there a way to add this feature if it doesnt exist? I hate where the auto-door lock switch is, so I tend to forget to lock the doors after I get in.

When I had my alarm installed I had them add the feature when the ignition turns on the doors lock. They said they could also add the feature where the doors automatically lock after a certain period of time after the car is off. I didn't want this as I have a bad habit of locking my keys in my car anyway. I assume most alarms can be wired to do this.

Also, if you unlocked the doors and not open any of the 4, the system will automatically relock the doors after 1-2 minutes (not a bad feature); this is the only autolocking the car has and I like it.
Is this a feature of the car or your aftermarket alarm? I have a factory alarm, and the doors do not lock after 1-2 minutes, this is the feature that I WANT. Anyone know how to do this if its not standard?

When you use Keyless entry to unlock the Protege, and you don't open the doors within 30 Seconds...it will AUTO-LOCK the car again ( just in case you just bumped the button )

Just another stupid thing that litigators install on cars to save the odd lawsuit when somebody gets hijacked or something...only to drive the cost of cars up.

Effing crap.
amen bro.... it does that crap on my buick. and you cant disable it. the only thing you can do is disable the unlocking when you turn the car off. stupid autolocks

The addon alarm works by the lock/unlock signals from the car so it will arm if the doors are locked and disarm if they are unlocked. The system is bypassed when the ignition is on though. I consider it a modified form of passive arming (that's not annoying) now that's a nifty feature

Hopefully it was installed correctly and the actual door switch does NOT DISARM the alarm. It will ARM it, but shouldn't DISARM it. May want to double check that to be absolutely sure.

If it locks when you shift to drive, there has to be a wire from either the collum or the transmission to tell the locks to lock or unlock....find that wire and snip it.

I forgot to add, this is also the same if I use the power lock button on the door. If I press lock (while the engine is not running), it will arm. If I press the unlock button, it will just unlock the doors but not disarm. The way it *should* be.
whats buttons are you talking about? The door panel button or the remote buttons? Why would you want the alarm to be armed if you unlock the doors? If you open the door, it would go off. Am I reading you correctly?

does it or not?

Im not sure if anyone answered my question...Does the stock P5 alarm have the feature of auto-lock after driving for 1-2 minutes or going a certain speed? My car does not do this. I want to make sure my car is working properly. Id rather the door locks lock automatically, rather than manually.
Senario,
1. Walking to car, press the unlock button (2) twice on remote to unlock all doors.
2. Wife and I get in car.
3. Start to drive off,
a.) after 1-2 minutes all doors lock or
b.) after 15 mph, door locks.

Does the P5 suppose to do these things? If not, does anyone know how I can get them to do A or B?

the P5 does not lock the doors automatically when you are driving. The only time the doors automatically lock is if you press the unlock button on the keyless entry remote and then you DO NOT open any of the door within about 20 seconds. This is bery nice feature as sometimes you may accidently unlock the car then it will relock it for you.

Can you buy an aftermarket kit or modify something to get the locks to lock automatically when you start driving or after a certain period of time?
