Question Air Controls

Okay so when I decide I want to put cold air on my face and not on my feet b/c they are freezing I switch it to the "face only" but it still comes out almost full blast on my feet as if I never switched it off "face and feet"... Is it just my car that does this or is it everyones?

Do you remember how the Contours had that same problem? It was because of a vacuum problem, and usually the problem with our old 'Tours was because of the little "control arm" plastic notch with a little peg on it. The peg would go into the metal rod coming out of the vacuum cylinder, and the rod would move up and down depending on which mode you selected (panel, floor, panel/floor, defrost, etc) and switch the vents. I'm not sure where this would be in the Protege, but this sounds like it's the case.

Oh, by the way, here's a crappy MSPaint to show what I was talking about. Hope it helps!

And yes, there's a reason I chose computer networking over graphical design or web design

yes, I remember that problem... kinda wierd having someone that knows the quirks or my old car. And you know what, that is the problem... so what I did, I just put it on the selector that said feet. It blew out of the vent and the feet. So i disconnected the rods, switch it to where it said feet/face, then reconnected and it works now... good thing I used to have a contour!

I had this same problem and the solution was actually unbelievably simple (I actually fixed it 5 mins ago):
On the driver's side, follow the "wire" coming from the A/C controls and youll end up at a white plastic assemble thing (on the right side above the leg room), the end of the wire forms a loop so youll have to release it using a small flat head screw driver, then move the assemble using your hand all the way to the right and it should be set at face only, turn on the A/C to see if it works properly, re-attach the wire and you´re done. (make sure you don´t move the assemble when you re-attach the wire or youll be right back were you started)

I hope that made sense, if not I could take a pic so that you can see what I´m talking about.

Yeah, sounds like one of the cables came loose and doesn't control the vents anymore.
