AC issues

Got a question: My AC is acting up. If i put the control on 1 or 4 everything is fine, if i put it on 2 or 3 the ac light blinks off and the AC doesn't work. Sometimes, you can put it up on 4, turn back down to 2 or 3 and it MIGHT stay on for a couple of minutes. Where should i troubleshoot 1st?

If your car is under warranty still, you should be able to get this replaced under warranty - there is a TSB out for it.

I have noticed that the light flickers off for a split second when I turn the rotary **** past the number "two" position.... I think this one might be in my future as well. Funny thing, my fiance's old Pontiac had the same problem. Future father-in-law's Focus had the same problem. You would figure that somebody out there in the automotive supply chain would learn how to make a robust resistor pack for the blower motor. Truth is, somebody already probably did - - and the auto companies probably just pick the cheapest one available for anything south of a Lexus.

I have the same problem, but unfortunately my car is out of warranty. Will I need to just replace the climate control unit, or is the resistor pack that mac mentioned a separate part?

New Part Numbers:
(DX N LX Green) BL8F-61-190D
(ES Amber) BL8W-61-190F

I'm guessing these would be the part #'s to order? (from the Protege FAQ)

I haven't done so myself, but yes, the part numbers from the FAQ should be correct. I would double check with the dealer parts people though before sepnding the money.

Looks like that's what I'll do. Hopefully it won't cost too much.
