AC and defrost

I just got my little kit in the mail from Mazda. The one with the survey for free touch up paint and the little keychain flashlight that can light up a campsite(what a bunch of crap that is). Anyway to the point. It came with a little quicktip guide thing. In it, it says that when defrost is selected the AC will be used unless it is below 37 degrees F. It didn't say anything about the defrost/feet combo though.

This makes me feel a little better about it. I pictured my gas milage being bad in the winter because my AC was on when its 5 degrees.

defroster/floor setting okay...

There are only two ways that the A/C system will operate. If you physically turn on the A/C (using the button) or if you turn the mode selector to the defrost selection.
The defroster/floor setting is a non-A/C setting (unless you override it with the A/C switch mentioned above!)

Wrong. The A/C will ALWAYS be on when the mode selector switch is in the "Defrost," "Floor / Defrost," or "Floor" positions. It cycles on and off depending on the position of the fan speed switch, but in those modes it will always be on regardless of the position of the A/C master switch.

Hope that helps!

Yeah it kinda sucks *****, cause the floor/defrost position is my fav position in the winter casue I don't like the heater vents blowing at me. And I hate driving around with my frickin AC on all the time in the winter. Its turbo gay. I need to figure out how to bypass that stupid thing.

Search for a post on de-soldering the microswitches, and your AC will only turn on when you hit the switch.

The quick tips thing said that if it was below 37 degrees then the ac would NOT be on when the defrost is on. So during the winter it should not be on.

And AC is only to dehumidify in colder weather - you'll still get plenty of heat, but dehumidified heat which is what you need to defog the windshield.

I love my little flashlight, that thing is BRIGHT. I think you can see it from space! The walk-in cooler at work is, like, pitch black in the back so I carry mine with me to see in there.

I tried my flashlight thing in the closet. It was dark but not completely black and I couldn't see it if I aimed it at a wall 3ft away. I will have to try it when it is pitch black.

Wink

I'm not sure if anyone has posted the true answer to the A/C question, but here it is. The A/C will always be on with exception of the two far right selections on the dial. These two disable the A/C when the A/C but is off. The A/C, in all other selections will remain on until the interior of the car is somewhat free of humidty. Mazdas in the past have been known to fog up, thus the engineers have designed the car so that the A/C aids in keeping it fog free.
P.S. It will be on for a short time in the winter, but will shut off automatically.

So I ask you this: How does the car know when it's humid inside or not?

I have had my car for about 2 months now and just got it. So, give it some time and you should get one.
