As I was getting some driving tips from my friend he told me to drive safely and to try not messing up the clutch. But I frogot to ask him how do I avoid doing that? Now since I am a new MP5 5spd owner how do I not mess up my clutch? And what can I do to avoid future casualties. Please leave me some tips and info A.S.A.P.

Hi,

It's important to realize that the clutch is basically a power-transmission device, which transfers power from the engine to the transmission. To do this, it utilizes a friction media not unlike your brake pads.

When you're driving down the highway, - with your foot off the clutch - it does not experience any wear.

So, the best thing you can do is minimize the time during which the clutch is "slipping" or travelling through it's "friction zone"- mainly during start from a dead stop.

The other really good habit you can get into is to rest your left foot OFF of the clutch pedal.

Oh, and don't worry TOO MUCH about it - with care, your clutch can last the life of the car. (As long as you don't drive like a boy racer).

And if you have to stop in the hills, don't use the clutch to keep the car steady, use brakes for that

Use the search function. First try "clutch", and then try "engine breaking" You will find volumes of information about how to treat and how not to treat your clutch. Beware that this is not a defined science by any means. There are a lot of conflicting opinions on the finer points of clutching.
