60,000mile Timing Belt Why so $$$$$

I have been quoted $500 and $825 for the 60K service. What is the deal????
I had a '93 Camry V6 and it was only $300 for the 90K timing belt service and that was at a dealer.
Is there something hard to get to or a real issue that drives up the cost. A dealer quoted me the $825. A local Mazda only shop the $500.
Any help you guys can give me would be great. Thanks.....

Go spend $150 on a shop manual, belts, spark plugs, fluids and filters then do the work yourself. You think the dealer makes that money selling you the car to you? Not really. They want you back to screw you with the service costs. Something a lot of people don't research when they buy a new car.

The 60K service includes several other things the 90K service doesn't. That's fairly typical of most cars. Shop around to find the best price, or look in detail at the things they are doing to see what you absolutely want them to do, and what you can skip, or do yourself. By the way, this belongs in the maintenance area so I'm moving it there.
