the 5 lug conversion

99-2000 has a 4 lug pattern and the 2000.5+ has a 5 lug from what I know.

Now There is nothing wrong with 4 lug... but I was curious if anyone knew what ecactly was changed when they did this.

Only the 01+ rear disk brake cars (MP3, ES, and P5) have 5-lug wheels. No North American-market 99-00 Proteges have rear disks. The 01+ rear drum cars (DX and LX) all have the same 4-lug wheels as the 99-00.

In the front, the only difference is the number of holes in the hubs, brake rotors and wheels. The front brakes are otherwise identical to the 99-00 ES, with larger diameter disks than the DX and LX.

The rear has different spindles with brackets to mount the brake calipers, different parking brake hardware, different hubs, and (obviously) the brake system is completely different. I also assume that the brake proportioning valve on 5-lug cars is different because disk brakes require more brake bias than drums.

Hope this helps
