search on rock guard or something and you'll find a few threads. i think generally, people like it.
The stuff is a poly vinyl film made by 3M called Scothcal. It is sold under a bunch of names by various people. www.x-pel.com www.starshieldarmor.com http://www.invinca-shield.com It comes in a bunch of different thickness's depending on what you want to do. 40 mill for headlights and foglamps, 6 or 8 mill for applications on your paint. By that I mean Hood, Front Fender caps, Front bumper, and Mirrors. Any and all of the above can be protected from stone chipping and bug damage.
The film is removable if it gets messed up, and is capable of being treated as your would normally treat the paint on your car. You can wash and wax it just as you normally would. Because of the fact that it is a film whenyou wax your car you may have to use a tooth brush or a detailing brush to eliminate any build up at the edge of the film.
If you value your paint or headlights you will look into this product.

I believe its the same product that we used on our Indy-cars when I worked for Della Penna Motorsports...... It's a clear material that we placed on the leading edges of wings, so that the edges wouldn't get "chipped-up or sandblasted". We also applied the material to the front portion of the sidepods so it would protect the paint and signage of the car, so that we wouldn't have to re-paint the pods after every race.
There is a company in San Jose, Ca. that does this type of work on street cars. There name is MR. TINT Inc. They call there's
"Clearsheild"......the phone number is 408-247-TINT (8468)
See ya, Speedbump.

That's the stuff.
It is used by the good folks at Nascar as well to protect their paint jobs.
My boss has a 4 year old Mercedes that he had done and the paint is immaculate even though he drives to his cottage north of Toronto with the last part being over 14 miles of gravel road. he does the trip at least 20+ times a year.
He had lost 2 headlights in the past 3 years due to gravel damage (mega bucks). Last spring he finally had his headlights covered. The stuff they use is 40mill thick and perfectly clear. He got it from northenmotorsports.com in Hamilton. He didn't have to spend any money this year on headlights. For $70.00 CDN it was the cheapest insurance he could have used.
After seeing his car I finally found a place I could get it for my car here in Ottawa and am just waiting for my appointment to get it installed.

The kit I want to do is by Stone Guard
I don't have a garage to work in, so I'll have to wait till spring to do it now. Hopefully I won't get to many winter nicks.
