Hi,

I'm having troubles removing the fog lamps on my 2001 ES. They are the OEM fogs.

The shape of them looks like the ones for the 99 & '00, but 99&00Protege claims they are different. I have never compared them. Anyone know for certain?

I went to the parts guy at the dealership where I bought my car, and he pulled out their workshop manual for the '01 car. And like many of the 2001 protege pictures in the instructions, it looks like the 99 or 2000 protege.

I followed all the instructions but I could still not get the damned lamps out.

From the instructions, it looks like I only need to remove the screw from the bottom of the lamp, but that does not free up the lamp. I still can't pull it out. It will pitch, so that means it's pivoting on something from the side. I found these 2 "rods" sticking out of the sides of the housing. They don't look like screws. I can push them and the fog lamp slides/yaws side to side like 2 mm. I can't seem to squeeze them, but I am suspecting that these are whats holding the lamp in the housing still.

And anyone know if the sedan uses H3 bulbs for fogs? It's hard to tell by looking from the outside. The lamp doesn't indicate the bulb type either. And the parts guy doesn't know since the parts manual only lists Mazda Parts numbers which do not indicate within it the bulb type. =(

Any help would be so greatly appreciated!!

anyhow, could you tell me how the fog lights fit into the 99/00 protege?
Is it attached by only one screw? If so or if not, where is it "attached" to the bumper?

ps - there are aiming screws for the '01 fog lights. At least that's what the diagram I have claims they are. But there's too much crap in the way for me to get at it while it's in the bumper.

Dayam.. I wish I had a digicam so I could post some pics of what I'm talking about =). It's hard to describe all this in words sometimes =)
