I stand corrected.

I figured unless it was an auto (longer fourth gear than 5th in MT) or had some gearbox changes, it was bs.

so that is a 1.8T? which had 150 bhp (before '02)or a VR6 which had 174bhp (and 150 whp?) I heard the 1.8's respond really well to tuning, and have ridiculously strong internals.

My friend has an older A3 GL (8v) and we have mostly been working on the suspension for now, pretty soft stock. We also had to stop a large militia of leaks out of all the front seals.

i just started reading this thread tonight...and man o man there's some funny stuff in here : i started laughing when i saw the 'all caps' post...because i knew what was coming...TheMAN and Protege Menace did not let me down!!

now more thread related...with $$$$ the P5 can be made plenty fast - built internals, turbo, etc...is it worth it? up to the spender of that money....i think its def a nice looking car with great handling. so, from that standpoint, why not make it quicker if you want to and have the means???

VERY nice Jetta

I think I found a solution for my desire to go fast. Its called a motorcycle. Now I cruise in the P5 and when I want to go really fast I get on my bike. Check out my web site.

The question is, what are you smoking? A lot of 4 bangers CAN do it nowadays! STOCK
Agreed, the h22a powered hondas can do over 145, I have no doubt 2.xl cars across many brands can.

My biggest concern would be the tranny, I'm not saying it could or couldn't handle it, but I'll be interested in seeing cars with 200+whp last 30k+ miles with the tranny. I'm not sure that kind of power was ever intended for it.

Its pretty cheap (realatively speaking) to upgrade the rotating assembly, but another thing to upgrade a tranny without aftermarket support.

For me, I'll be happy with another 30whp and maybe a bit more torque.

I myself have pushed my ES Sedan from 80 Mph to around 122-125 Mph. It did not take 20 minutes to get there. It didn't even take 5 minutes to get there. It took less than a minute. To me it feels like my car gets from 80 to 110 faster than it does from 60 to 80. In 4th gear the engine screams but doesn't really do much. Once at 80 mph in 5th gear it gets up to very illegal speeds very quickly. All I've done to my car is take out the stock airbox and put a cone air filter directly in front of the MAF. What I really want is 0-60 acceleration in 7 seconds or less. With the FM Turbo kit that shouldn't be a problem. Keep in mind that 95% of the cars on the road do 0-60 in more than 8 seconds. (At least around here). I timed myself and I hit 60 in about 8-8.5 seconds (pretty slow). So I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I wish my Pro could smoke all my friends in their Civics, Altimas, Corollas and various other Very Ugly Cars. Corolla vs. Pro LOL .....

I feel the same. The other day a ford focus blew me away and it didn't feel good. I really don't think we are going to be able to make these cars go super fast.

I say enjoy the ride and the torque, but don't take this car as a serious speed machine.

We will soon know when the MP3 owners get the FM fuel fix. Its never going to be a vette ofcorse but it could be just as good a compeditor as any other SCC.

Yeah, its not like its one of the Japanese "super" cars, but throwing even a mild turbo setup would make it a whole different driving experience.
