Exclamation The WHOLE Story On The P5 Exhausts

Ok, I've seen lots of posts in this forum regarding available exhausts for the Protege'5. I thought I'd do everyone a favor and set the record straight on the exhausts available, and upcoming. With that, here it goes:

There are currently 2 exhaust systems available directly from Mazda itself. There is the "Sport Exhaust" which is in a sense the MP3 Racing Beat muffler, with a different pipe to clear the axle on the P5 properly. The other system, the "Performance Exhaust" (the system I currently have installed) is an entirely new system from Mazdaspeed. It's a very deep, bassy sound, and my official butt dyno says it's about a 5HP gain off an axle-back system. See this link here for full details and pictures of my exhaust.

There are 2 other systems available from after-market companies for the P5. Bosal makes a cat-back system, available from Mitch, and Racing Beat just released an all-new cat-back for the P5. You have to contact RB directly to order as far as I'm aware.

Hope this did alot to clear up the confusion surrounding exhausts around here. If there any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them!

Yes, a part number would be very helpful since dealerships only seem to have one exhaust listed ... that being called the "sport" exhaust. Don't wanna blow three bills on some MP3 exhaust. Definitely want the Mazdaspeed one.

And that's why people are replying. To add the ones that I missed... The whole point of a forum in case you missed that.

If only some of us would think before posting stuff like that...

You can point that finger up your *** for all I care. I do think before I post, its just your initial post, said the whole story , and you were here to clear up what is available, and what is coming up. You only scratched the surface, so perhaps you should think before naming topics the way you do.

Um, it DOES exist! Don't believe me? It's on my car! Look here for pictures that prove it. For a part number, the sedan version of the Performance exhaust is 0000-8M-C09. The Protege'5 Performance exhaust part number is 0000-8M-C10.

Is THAT proof enough for you?

Yes, but it's listed as the performance exhaust in the computer.

Maxx: Thanks muchly for verifying the part number (0000-8M-C10 for P5's)

Also, Brullen makes a catback system for the Protege5 ... so you can add that to the list of manufacturers

so maxx, you're saying that there is a sport and performance exhaust, and the "performance exhaust" is listed as "sport exhaust" in the brochure and shows up as "performance" in the computer system? What is the sport ehaust listed as in the brochure and computer?

The performance exhaust is listed as the sport exhaust in the accessories brochure, yes, and shows up as the performance exhaust in the computer. The "true" sport exhaust was a last-ditch effort by mazda to have another exhaust available when the P5 came out. It's actually the MP3 muffler, with a shorter pipe to fit the P5. I'm not sure on the part number, or what it's called in the compter, but I think Mazda quit making those anyway. I personally have ever seen two installed on P5's, and I did verify with the owners that it is a direct bolt on, not an MP3 muffler that had been retro-fitted - just to make sure that Mazda did in fact make a "sport" exhaust at one point. In fact, the new performance exhaust may be a total replacement for the old one, hence the naming in the brochure. I'll look into that.

Great thanks for all your info maxx. Is the Performance exhaust considered loud like can people hear your car from a block away or something?
