What to buy next.....

Alright I wanna open this to discussion to get some opinions and feedback on the order of mod's I am thinking of for the end of this month. will go with 2-3 of the items I am about to list.
Intake camshaft $155
Exhaust camshaft $199
headers $250-400
Hand porting and polish $450
Urethane motor mounts $125
mazdaspeed high compression pistons $79 each 10.7:1 ratio
undr/overdrive pulley set $200-400
Short Shifter(will do anyway)
Eibach cross drilled rotors with new pads $290

and lastly there is an internet special through sr motorsports right now for the flywheel/hardwarekit and clutch kit for 699 but Im thinkin that is one of the later mods I will do.

And for reference All I have done to the engine is in my sig.

Thx, opinions and comments are appreciated, but lets not have any stupid *** replies like, just do an engine swap or get another car, those are unwanted. I also reliaze some of the above choices would require additional work and/or hardware but I am more interested in the main items for this post.

header (not headers , our cars only have one)
both camshafts (do them both at once, it only makes sense)
motor mounts (as long as your in the engine bay)

I wouldn't mind seeing a dyno of the high compression pistons. Taking apart the entire engine can be a real bitch though...

If you only want one cam, go with the intake first...

HC pistons will require expensive ECU upgrades (not a "chip")...so plan on that...

A header will give you the easiest, highest initial gain I would bet...

I have heard that the intake cam doesnt do as much as the exhaust cam, I could be wrong but I read a post in here that said that but like I said I could be wrong.

I have heard great things on getting a new header for our Proteges. Thats what I think I will do next on my car when I get the funds. Might be some time though........

Well I am thinkin I will wait on the pistons untill I get the port and polish, some new valve seals and a stand alone EMS.

I am not sure about the intake and exhaust cam numbers, on both sites I have seen them it states the intake cam shows a 12whp gain and the exhuast cam shows a 10whp gain but they dont have actual dyno graphs or anything so Im not sure what they are basing that off of.

Looking like if I have enough money I will do both cams and the header, the header first probably. Also the engine mounts and Ill see if my dad wnats to get me the short shifter for my bday. =)

Thx for the input guys.

Phantom Cruiser got about 20+ whp with both cams, flowmaster muffler (just a universal weld-on one from what I remember), and a Bosal header...so i think the 12whp/10whp cam claims are optimistic...Also Ed gained just about 10whp with both cams and the FS-ZE Intake Manifold...So I would say about 7-8whp with both cams...But the intake cam has more of a difference than stock over the exhaust cam from what I remember...

well then I will be getting them in this order.
header
intake cam
engine mounts
exhaust cam

I am actually going to be doing most of this at once, I live in AZ normally but am in washington for the summer helping my company open a new site. When I get back to AZ I will have a shitload of parts waiting to be installed so I am very eager. Plus I think doing them all at once will be easier.

yeah definately at least do the front engine mount (#3 mount??)when you install the cams...You have to unbolt it anyway when you remove the timing belt for the cam sprockets...You could install the header at any time...

i didnt think you could get the exhaust cam anymore.. i did the intake and exhaust about 2 months ago. havent done the dyno but it pulls better to red line from about 4000 rpm. i still have on my stalk exhaust i hope that changing out that may help along with an underdrive pully. i dont think i'd do port and polish untill you have something in your car thats gonna make a difference. but i donno. unless you do it your self for free. well... then again you could save all the money that your spending on porting and polishing and pistins with some installations. and just get a turbo
