It's from Z-Engineering, now called VF Engineering. I bought it used. The reason I waited until I found this kit is the ease of installation. No tapping the oilpan. I figure that if I can't pass smog, I may as well make it easy to swap the intake back to stock.

m not sure if i sent the PM to you or not matty, my comp crapped out on me right after i sent it. the protege's tranny wont be able to hold the 200whp for long, about 10000 miles into the SC the 3rd gear will shatter. or thats what i am told. 3rd gear for the protege is the weak link, same as the 2nd gear is the weak link for the miata. something about reinforcing the gears is what im told, might go back to the dealership and check up on it again.

my source is a guy from a mazda dealership who races a 2hundred something whp miata.....he says that you should strengthen the gears to be safe.

just an idea about the a/c debacle... do you need to remove the ac for room... or for other reasons

To answer the question about the A/C -- Both...

As for the tranny debate, according to a mazda tech, the tranny should be able to handle well over 200hp easily. I'd like to get the make and model info about the tranny to see what it's rated for. My guess is somewhere around 300hp. Wish there were another tranny out there fro our cars, I'd be tempted to upgrade the tranny before the motor.

yes, i double checked with him. he said that after about 220hp he would strongly advise strengthen the gears, but the tranny should handle up to 275 hp.

did you know that the most overbuilt tranny is in the focus??? it can handle 300+whp stock!

The AC has to go for a few reasons. Mounting location is primary. Also, the drain of an ac system coupled with the drain of a blower would cause sever drain on the powertrain. Without my compressor (and blower) the car revs like a motorcycle. Another key thing is that when the blower shifts from vaccuum to boost (instant boost up to 12psi possible in under .1s) the strain on the accessory belt is very high. AC draw is often the straw that breaks the camels back.

Once I have everything mounted on a stock belt I will determine it's strength and include an upgraded belt of the appropriate length if needed. Belts break on supercharged cars. It's not pleasant but when compared to turbo failure it has a HUGE advantage.

Belt breakage on a SC returns the car to stock minus your powersteering (on my kit). The car still runs normally and safely and will maintain speed. If a turbo goes out you're in for a world of hurt. Driveability is shot.

Tranny strength is not something I've looked into yet. I think 200whp is a horribly low number though. I think 250-ish is more the case but time and drag races will tell!

update

HEy guys, more pics. I'm waiting for the brackets still but I'll post this up to give you an idea of what to expect ECU-wise. It looks pretty straightforward with everything clearly labled. I'll be sure to make VERY SPECIFIC instructions on my own when installing this.

WOW!

As for the F10 or F10X....it is a great solution...easy to handle/install/program. Great for the PSI and HPs you are thinking of!!

Definately watching this thread!
I'd like to speak with you further about the wiring of this Haltech. I've made it very clear to everyone that wiring is NOT my strong suit. I'm having a wiring diagram sent to me and I'll be going over the layout but actually speaking with someone who HAS this ecu will help me that much more.

Also, I will be dynoing this NA to see what kind of power can be had with the ecu OFF-BOOST. This is VERY important when thinking about how the car will respond in "every-day" driving. My early estimate?? 120whp with my ebay intake and obx header and Haltech.
