Thanks!

Okay...sorry it took so long to get back to this thread...installed the Crank Pulley a few days ago..here is my impression of it...
Gas mileage has gone up a bit, not a lot but it has gone up..Car seems to pull much nicer through the higher rpm...instead of loosing power in the higher rpm it feels smoother and pulls a little harder into the redline. Seems to make the biggest difference above 4000rpm. The UR pulley feels so much lighter, when I had them both out I tried to weigh them but the shitty bathroom digital scale would'nt register the UR pulley..its that light! Install was easy...took about an hour and I changed my oil at the same time, easy for any do it yourself-er. You will need new belts...I paid $20 each (Cdn) for the new shorter belts at a UAP Napa....I've got the part numbers if anyone needs them. Im very happy with the pulley..I have a volt gauge in my pillar pod and it still reads the same...no drop in amps, even with my stereo running etc...I like the way the car pulls with the pulley, dont know exactly what kind of hp its free'd up but my butt dyno agrees it added some power...cant wait to get my cams in! Maybe this weekend....I'll post an after thought on those when I get them in. Any questions...ask away!

Hey blackp5ca, i was wondering what was the part # for the new belt because i am very interested in this mod and its looking like i am going to do it very soon. thanks

BTW i was also wondering do u have any other mods such as intake or exhaust that would contribute to the pull of the UR pully

The belt Part Numbers are:
Gates Belts - K040355 (inner belt)
- K050446 (outer with a/c) K050396 (without air)
Im pretty sure all Protege's have air?
More info I found....Stock Pulley weight 4lb 8oz
UR Puley, 0lb 15.4 oz.
They claim each lb off is a 2.7 hp gain...little high Im sure but who knows...dont have access to a dyno.

Ive done an intake and axle back exhaust, plus the new pulley for perf. mods.
Cams and Phenolic Spacers (Manifold / Throttle Body) maybe this weekend.

Just cut the A/C and power steering belt(or remove it if you want to use it again )and save the money for a header or cams or gears. Those mods are much more worth the $$ IMO

The type of fluid used in your vehicle is very instrumental in the performance of it. Try them, and you will probably be so impressed that you will start listing them in yours.

I suggested taking the belt off, because that might give the guy some idea of the gains that can be expected. I was just trying to help.

Seems like everybody is so tensed in here lately, CALM DOWN,lol.

Seriously though, I'm more of a rotary nut(and this thread is a good reason to explain why...but maybe later)...but the fact is guys, these UDPs aren't worth it. If you are this concerned about what MIGHT happen to your motor over gaining 2-3hp..and yes, that's about all you get typically on the 4cyl motors, then DONT DO IT...its not worth stressing over a $150 part for 2/3 hp...that may or may not blow your engine.

Over the years, I've put UDP on numerous vehicles...and honestly, they are pretty safe...a lot of times a motor will go and it was just a coincidence and had nothing to do w/ the UDP but people will say thats what caused it...other times bad tuning coupled with the UDP will cause premature wear...but lets remember, the protege is NOT a race engine and ANY mods related to the block will more then likely bring on premature wear...

TO EACH THERE OWN and STOP THIS FIGHTING...we're mazda owners after all

I've had this pulley on my car for a while now, added cams to the engine last Wednesday, granted they are not broken in yet so I have been very gentle with the engine, I was more impressed with the engine response from the pulley than with the cams and pulley combined...maybe after another 500kms when I feel safe to beat on it my opinion will change. Either way I am very happy with the pulley...gotta remember we are driving Protege's here , not a lot of spare hp in that engine...as for cutting/removing your belt...have fun peeling your nuts off the seats when the hot weather finally gets here...just my .2cents.

The UDP is directly connected to the crankshaft, which is why you noticed quicker response than with the cams. The cams most likely gave you more overall power however...
