?uestion about 2nd to 1st shift (climbs into flame suit)

mostly a question out of curiousity.

i don't downshift into 1st coming up to a light. usually, i only go down to 2nd.

but i've noticed that if i'm coasting with the clutch depressed, it's difficult to throw the stick from 2nd into 1st. once the car has stopped, it pops into 1st very smoothly.

this is the first MT car i've owned so i honestly don't know if it's an issue or just a quirk or what. and like i said, i don't go down to first when slowing anyway so it's not a driveability issue, i was just curious if others cars were acting this way.

be easy on me.

This is a preventive measure so that people wont accidently go into 1st gear instead of 3rd on the upshift from 2nd or the downshift from 4th. You *can* get it in with a lot of pressure, but its there so the car can tell you, "Hey! youre trying to get into 1st gear....you sure you want to???" No problems at all...its just a *saftey/convience* thing.
thank you.

yes the tranny is idiot proof.. well almost, its the same with rev very difficult to push it in and you can't go from 5th to rev, you have to go 5th --> N --> R. even though mazda put these safety features in some people still manage to go from 4th to 1st instead of 3rd and blow their engine...

Yeah, Britney Spears made the news a few months ago when she dropped from fourth to first in a ferrari and the engine ate itself.....what an idiot. Her first stick too.
