Throttle Response

I drive a 2001 ES and am having problems with throttle response. It is an automatic transmission and there is a lag between the time I fully depress my gas pedal to the time the car downshifts and takes off. I was wondering if this was because of the automatic transmission and is there anything I can do to fix it. Is anyone else been having the same performance issue ?

It's not really a performance issue...its just the torque converter taking a second to engage...why do you think automatics are slower than manuals??...you can make the reaction a little bit better with a high performance torque converter, but it still isnt the same as manual...and if you are talking about downshifting after already moving the lag is the reaction time of the electronics that control the tranny...no way i really know to improve that, unless you are really good at electronics and know how to make something that works better than mazda made

if you wanna down shift do it yourself, Auto Transmission is the same as a Manual, same theory, same gears, same steel.

Use the overdrive, use Gear 2.

of course its not recommended for older cars. But if you don't like the times that the Cars CPU is shifting then manually shifting them yourself is not so much harmful as long as you shift correctly. LOL a down shift to gear one at 80kmph just aint good.

Same rules apply for Auto as they do for Manual

get a Shift Kit Makes your auto tranny do the exact same thing it does now, but better.

Smooth shifting transmissions accomplish [smoother shifting] by being in two gears at once when shifting up. It's known as shift overlap. Shift kits reduce or eliminate the shift overlap and speed up actuation of the shift, hence the harder feel to the shift. A shift kit will reduce wear because you won't have the trans trying to be in two gears at once.

That should help out in the responce department they run you about $200.

I havent installed one on the pro yet but I had one on my old VW.

Im sure if you look around you should be able to find a good one. Ill probubly get one into the pro soon enough, though.
