Supercharger Donation thread

OFF TOPIC POSTS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED---GO JUNK UP ANOTHER THREAD

I deleted the last thread due to some stupid posting. So it's starting over!

The title sounds like I was denying donations for some time, that is not true!

I figure I would ask my friends, fellow enthusiasts, and protege brethren for some help.

As you guys know I'm trying my best to design a custom supercharger application for the 3rd gen 2.0L proteges and I'm having to do all of this out of my pocket. It is not an easy task when you consider how much equipment I have to buy and the price of parts now-a-days. Just the blower and bypass valve cost me $2100+shipping. That doesn't include the intercooler core, the intercooler piping, silicone hose, hose clamps, vaccuum line, new cone filter, custom mounting brackets, new belt, FMU, etc.....

What I'm asking for is ANY help you guys can possibly give towards this goal. Every little bit helps and I need help right now! I can get this done on my own but it will take about a year to do it. I'm hoping to have these ready to go about the time everyone gets their refund checks!

If anyone feels like they can donate anything I would certainly appreciate it. My paypal address is perrymuk@bellsouth.net . I will be more than happy to show you guys also what comes into my paypal and how I spend it because 99% of everything will be bought using paypal. I'm not trying to pocket some cash here, just jumpstart this project since I've decided on a course of action.

If anyone would like to talk to me personaly about the project to see where it is and what is still left to be done I'm always here. Just pm me!

If anyone would like to donate a part that would also be great! I have a list of parts I'll need.

I don't know how or what I can do to make it up to anyone who donates but I can promise you I won't forget your contribution. We may do something along the lines of a discount on the kit for a donation. You donate $10 and get $50 off the kit or $20 and get $100 off the kit. Something along those lines.

Thanks guys.

Thanks Paul for your support. Let me know if you don't need the other kidney either. I still have a buyer for that!

Prime, did some bench racing this weekend and came up with some ideas
how about an electric PS pump to replace the one that would have to be moved
also for blowers, have you looked into the VW G-ladder Sc unit?

PS won't be relcoated even....I've decided that the AC compressor is a luxery most performance-minded individuals are happy to do without. Also, losing the AC drops a lot of weight off the nose of the car that will be added with the blower. So I bet adding an intercooled SC will only add about 5-10lbs total weight to the car.

Also, another GREAT feature is the ability to add different pulleys to the blower and still retain the stock belt. When upgrading boost on a SC you have to make the blower pulley smaller. It's not a drastic change mind you so belt sizing is very hard to get exact. Most places use automatic tensioners that are spring loaded to take up the extra slack....by retaining the PS pump and it's bracket you retain the tensioner so all you have to do is lossen the blower pulley, unscrew the ps bracket tensioner, slide the old pulley off, put the new pulley on and re-tighten the old belt on the new pulley. You've just upped your boost. Also, you don't have to worry about boost spiking, boost creep, any of that.

I have not heard of the G-ladder blower. I looked into a pair of VW blowers but they were both eatons.

The idea of having an electric pump is a good one for most applications however the protege is probably not the best when it comes to alternator efficiency. My stock MSP subwoofer would cause the lights to dim...I could only imagine what a 12V motor drivng an accessory like that would draw. I will look into it though.

Everyone keep your fingers crossed. We should hear back about my proposal this week.

the reason I suggested the G-ladder is its a small blower that was used on 1.8 (and 2.o 16v) motors in the Corrado here and in many VW's in europe. Bahn Brenner sells uppde output and rebuilt ones...they are about the size of a large alternator and come in varying boost levels....maybe something to check out.
I agree with ditching the AC, even here in the armpit..err St.Louis you can survive w/o air...thats why you have windows...

man, that ius odd-looking. I'd want to hold one in my hands and get measurements on them....how much do these run new? I've not seen this style of blower before. It looks like a centrifugal blower with a roots-style intake.....strange

its acctually an eccentric style centrifugal blower....oddest damn thing I've ever seen...afaik you acnt get them "new" any more, you can get reman and upgraded..there in the 1000 range for oem spec...
I can ask around locally if anyone has one I can measure out for oyu...otherwise hit the junk yards and look for a Corrado with a G60 badge, 4x100 wheels and thats about it...the IC used was a fender mounted unit. I dont know what the boost was on them...you can check the VWvortex forums as well

hmm, I still think I'm better off with what I've got going so far. That unit is about 60% bigger than the one I'm using (based solely on appearances) and I know it'll fit without any problems. Also, I'm hoping to get brand new self-contained blowers for about $1400-$1500 once the negotiations are done. It's a very good price for what you'd get in return. I've compared the blower I'm looking at with about 4 other brands and it is by far the best blower....although a little pricier!

if you dont mind my asking what have you decided on? If you need any help on it (non financially as Im poor) lemme know, I have an engineering bkrd and am a Draftsman by trade...i'd like to see this happen, IM saving now as we speak...
As far as fueling goes, are thinking a RRFPR and injectors, or just a regulator....its too bad our ECU's wont allow an SAFC....that'd be perfect for this...

RB, I'm not really wanting to diclose any of the actual specs or even name of this blower until i Know for sure they are going to work with me on it. The sheer cost of the blower is pretty high and if they don't come down and work with me then I'm either going to have to raise the price of the kit or settle for a blower that I don't feel is ideal. I don't EVER like to settle.

I will say this though:

Max boost = 24psi
Max cfm = 1000cfm
max hp = 675 + hp

This is also their BASE MODEL blower I should point out!

Another great thing about the blower is that the Eatons will only run 14K rpms....these blowers run 50K.

Thanks on the intercooler, but Ken has really got me a great set-up if the manufacturer falls through. We're looking at something a little smaller. I want the intercooler to match the cfm rating of the blower application. I think too often people over-intercool create drivability problems. The cores I'm looking at are 3" thick, 6' tall and about 14" long. This sounds tiny but the core is dyno proven to produce less than 1psi drop and support over 500whp. I think it would be ideal.

If you lived closer I'd love to have you come down and share your input with me. I'm going to have topher, pro5, anarchistchiken (someone has to order pizzas right?), blakesmith13 and a few others. We're going to have a brainstorming / how-to weekend where I go over everything I've got so far and how the kits are assembled and what it's like to tune it (very simple). It should be a fun way to waste a few days.

Also, I could use an extra pair of hands and if those hands have welding experience thats just a plus!
