Question Super ITC will work?

I've done a search for Apexi Super ITC ignition timing control and nothing came up, so I decided to post a new thread.

I understand that most piggy back won't work for our 3rd gen ECU. Does anyone know if Apexi Super ITC can fool our ECU succeffully to give more ignition timing control?

From my understanding, a piggy-back system will successfully fool the ECU in all situations except wide open throttle (WOT). If the piggy-back system can't control the ECU at WOT, I don't see the value of it. Unfortunately, Mazda's ECUs are what hold us back from really good cheap gains.

So the open loop mode at WOT will override the fuel map, as well as the ignition map? I was hoping that it only overrides the fuel map. I guess there is no easy way out now...

Open loop mode is the ONLY time that you can override the ECU. I've been looking into an S-ITC now also. The problem that I can see is that it only allows 5 RPM adjustment points and one of those is 7200 RPM. It interpolates all points in between (linear smooth line from one set point to the next set point). I've still not been able to discover if it will 'fool' our ECU's or the ECU will attempt to compensate from sensor input.

I'm leaning towards the theory that it will override the ECU timing though because that's the same thing that Unichip says will happen with their piggyback. The Unichip can adjust timing anywhere on our ECU's, but will only be able to adjust the fuel at WOT. I'm thinking of getting an S-ITC used and seeing if it works.

Traveler,
It's great if we can use Super ITC to control the ignition a bit. I am pretty sure that ITC does not give an exact ignition timing to the ECU, instead, it advance or retard up to 15% of the ignition timing. For instance, at a point where the stock ECU requests for 10 degrees of retard, we can fool the ECU to retard only 8.5 degree, or to retard up to 11.5 degree. But of course, it's only true if it works in our cars.

Since LINK has been so popular in Miata (I am using one for my turbocharged Miata), I think Bill at Flying Miata may be able to work out something with LINK for Protege. I know that they will carry BEGI's Protege turbo kit as well.
