Angry Stupid RAI

its really bothering me now, 3 resets, 2 extra fasteners, and 100 miles later the engine light still comes on. what is going on here?!?!?!?! i put some fasteners on the beginning of the tube that connects the RAI to the block and one on the end, hoping that would help a bit cause it seemed a bit loose. should i just get another air filter? im seriously about to give up on this thing

Try resetting the ECU if you haven't already. Sometimes the MAS has a hard time reading all the air from the new intake.

For starters, what is the code that is tripping the light?

Is the filter an oiled filter? Sometimes the oil from the filter contaminates the MAF. Simply fixed by cleaning the MAF with some electronic parts cleaner.

Definitely find out what's tripping the light first.

ok, i gave it up...i put the stock airbox back on. im tryin to see if anything can be done before i sell it on ebay. if nothing can be done, would anyone want a free RAI? comes with everything.... i even added 2 more clamps to hold the hose connecting the RAI to the block...only about a month old.

Maybe (just maybe) it is unrelated to the RAI install, but is a vacuum leak somewhere else on the engine... Run the engine and listen for that whistle. Move hoses, spray with oil to see if the rpms suddenly get better...

The 'code' you said was 'vacuum' - could it be the manifold air flow? The reason i ask - i had the same symptoms because as i put my RAI on i moved the MAF sensor. By moving it i put 'stress' on the connector. Enough driving/vibes wore the wires at the connector. I would get CEL and the massive stumbles on acceleration but okay 'cruising'.

I found it by 'wiggling' the connector with the engine running. It stalled. HHmmh.

The only fix was to splice in new wire to make it longer.

The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor consists of the little wires hanging in the big black tube with a box on the side. When you had the RAI, there were two tubes in the kit and an array of couplers. The MAF is the piece that goes in between the two tubes. The little one that get stuck into the little hole is the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor.

ok, i looked under the hood and say the MAF and the IAT. what is the last sensor, in the very back? its being held up by a 3 inch metal peice near where the piping comes out?

It's not a sensor. It's the purge solenoid valve, part of the Evaporative Emmissions (EVAP) Control System.

check all your vacuum lines, especially the ones near the intake mani and TB...one is prob loose...I had the exact same prob...also clean that MAF...just get some contact cleaner and spray it lightly
