Question Steering wheel shake?

I have a 02 brand new mp5, I put 3500 miles on it the first month I had it, it does fine on roads not goin over like 55 but if you get it on the highway and go 55 and over anywhere between like 55 and 100 the steering wheel shakes. Not bad bad but enough to "annoy" you as you drive. Anyone else have this prob, I put MOMO race wheels on it and had it aligned all was good. WTF
Thanks

Make sure the lugs are all torqued to spec. If you want to redo the wheel make sure that you tighten the lugs (not torqued down - just semi-tight) while the car is off of the ground in a star pattern and when you lower the car torque the lugs within factory spec in the same star pattern. This helped the shaking when I got new rims for my old WRX.

Hope this was what you were looking for!

Because your car is so new i doubt there's anything wrong with the car. Propably your tires (rims+tires) are not in good balance, your rims are not totally round or your tires are crappy ones Some tires are in bad balance from the factory and they must be replaced. So i guess it's one of there three...

Unhappy me to...

I have experience the same problem, but with stock rubber and rims. I tend to believe the vibration is expected bacause of the stiff suspension set-up our vehicles have, but I do intend to bring it up with my dealer when I bring it in for its 1st oil change. But in all honesty, I tend to think some kind of vibration will happen when you are running 100 mph

Retorque...if that doesn't work have them rebalanced and then retorque again. This should most definitely sovle the problem.

If not ask for replacement rims/tires. It shouldn't come to this though.

I would get shaking/vibrations in my WRX with my new rims about 65mph...i got my wheels rebalanced and retorqued the lugs and it was smooth sailing up to 120ish. (I'm bad for driving that fast...but i was just testing the wheels of course! )

i had that same problem when i got my new rims and tires what solved that problem you need to get a speed blance on you tires not a regular blance that you get at some places call around and ask if they have a speed blance machine

When you installed your new wheels, did you put a center ring ?

If not that is most likely your problem.
Our cars wheels are made to be "seated" on the centerbore.
If they dont and just sit on the bolts they will have a tendency to vibrate !!!

Let us know what is the resolve on this.

Might help other people.

My wife and I had an experience with a buildup of mud and rock in our rims from driving on dirt roads. There was like two pounds of mud in behind each spoke on the stock rims. Unfortunately it was uneven weight and that was enough to throw our balance out. The dealership were really nice to clean it out for us and not charge but now we know to steer clear of dirt roads or suffer the consequences.

Hope you figure it out.
