believe it or not I have the protege 2000LX which has the 1.6L engine on it, Auto too, and I let the engine shift between 2.5 and 3.3K rpm. True, the true power fo the protege comes in between 3-5K, but it puts too much stress on the engine. I like to keep my car for years to come, so I am taking it easy on the car right now

But, I am suprised that you should shift lower in the Auto's on the Manual. i would think that there should be no difference, I mean, the transmission shouldn't have anything to do with the engine directly that it may cause to degrade or anything like that

Because this weather(which is getting nice) is causing me to let the engine up shift around(go from 2nd to third) around 4K lately..... :D :shift:

Autos only have 4 speeds, so the power band is different than on a 5 speed because of the different gear ratios. I think on the autos the gears are set for more low-end power than the higher end, as most autos don't often redline...which is the reason they can get away with shifting much sooner than a 5 speed can.

Ohhhh....
So let me get this thing striaght
When I drive, I hear 5 gear changes but I've heard it is not five gears, but
3 gears
1 over drive
1 toque converter

is this correct?

i was just joking..... but anyways what car you got??? the type S is overrated..... unless you are running at 100km/h or 60mph plus...... that's when the typeS kills the base..... from 0-60 or so tho...... it's mostly in the launch..... type S has a bit of an advantage but not much from what i've seen and heard...... btw i have a base......

OMFG learn to use the PM function !!

You do realize that adding the silencer negates any kind of performance benefit you would get from the muffler?

mygreenmazda April-26th-2003 03:42 PM

Hey nitramRSX you are right pros are slow. Hey does cars you got there look great and by the way how fast does the prelude run. Well I got a 99pro 1.8 I'm just so lazy to get the camera go outside and take pictures of it. I'll tell you I raced a non type-s and I beat him by a lenght and a half to 80mph but the type I raced before I had him 1st and 2nd gear and the I suppose the vtec kick in and oh well I just started crying. I love the rsx look but I love the integra type r, they are rare cars and expensive.

there will be a DC5 Type R (which is the RSX Type R) coming over here in the not too distant future supposedly, which means the MSP's short lived throne of "Best handling production FWD" is probably not goig to last much longer. But Honda loves to play funny tricks by building great chassis' and then using the worst OE tires they could get their hands on, so maybe on paper the Mazdaspeed will survive...

mygreenmazda April-27th-2003 11:04 AM

Hey Installshield any picks of the car because I was thinking of getting a mazdaspeed later on but if they are coming with some form of typer r I am definetely going to wait and see it. Any pics of the car or any specs at all.

Okie, I think I'm probably gonna go for this muffler... You make it sound so good... You just better hope you don't regret convincing me into this. If I'm not satisfied, your head will adorn my dinner plate. j/k! I'm pretty sure I'll like it, just not so sure if my dad will. He drives it from time to time, and he often tells me how emarassed he is of driving the car with just the altezza's on it. Waitll he gets a load of this... hehehehehe... Well anyways, thanks for all of the information, it has been very helpful in helping me to make up my mind.

It seem like you haven't been on the forum in a while. You are right automatics are definetely slow. But I still love the rsx's.
