Sparkco Exhaust (good sh*t!)

Just got my Sparkco Exhaust installed this afternoon...i love it!
The muffler gives out a strong, throaty deep tone as you accelerate, yet settles down to almost no sound at cruising speed. I recommend this to anybody looking to upgrade their exhaust while not spending too much on it. I bought it for $45.99 USD directly from Sparkco Engineering Tech. in montreal. Called Peter and he's very good to deal with. Ordered on Tuesday morning, he shipped it out that same day via Fedex, and I received it Wednesday afternoon (I live in Ontario, Canada). Installation (welding + custom piping) cost me $60 canadian. I will show pictures of it very soon.

VagaBond-X April-18th-2003 12:48 PM

seems like a good deal ... where did you go for the custom piping and welding for only $60 .... do you live near Toronto, cuz i'm also looking for a custom exhaust.

So roughly you paid about $70 - 75 for the Sparco muffler, and plus $60 for the piping.

doesn't seem bad....

did you go 2.25" .... and what is the size of the sparco tip.... sorry for all the questions ....

cuz if i can get a whole custom exhasut for $150CAD then that would be sweet

E-Diddy April-18th-2003 03:58 PM

Well, i paid $160 total for the custom work and exhaust and delivery and all. I went to this chinese place called Racing Evolution on Burnhamthorpe and Creditview in Mississauga, did it in 1 1/2 hrs. Pretty good work. I'll post some pics once i clean my car.

This is the one I have:
http://www.sparkco.com/images/produc...s/DSC05180.jpg

I forgot the dimension of the tip...

You can e-mail Peter (the guy from Sparkco) :
info@sparkco.com

He can provide you with all the info you need.

p.s. I just took out the silencer this afternoon, and the exhaust is producing a very racy deep throaty note. You'll like it for sure man.

proto-J April-19th-2003 05:56 AM

Hey, that sounds pretty good.
I live in Winnipeg and was on the verge of picking up a Mazdaspeed muffler.
But for the price that you paid, I'll check out Sparco.
Thanks!

Neb April-19th-2003 10:08 AM

hi
I am from Toronto, and I am just wondering about that place that did the custom piping. Do they do a mandrel (sp?) bend? or the rippled bends? That seems like a pretty good price for custom piping, and I wanted to ask if you notice any performance difference with the sparkco exhaust besides the sound? Is it loud? I am looking for something that isn't too loud. Also, is the custom piping stainless steel? along with the exhaust?

Ben

E-Diddy April-19th-2003 11:36 AM

Neb

I think the place that i went to, did a mandrel bend. At the end result, the welding job was DECENT, to say the least. Not the most professional work, but it holds well and does the job.
As for the Sparkco exhaust, it can be really loud if you take out the silencer. If you want something racy yet mellow, leave the silencer on w/ the adjustment to the max. (there's a sliding rotary plate for silencing adjustments). The sparkco muffler is stainless steel, but the custom piping is not.

Hope it helps.

Eric

TheMAN April-19th-2003 07:57 PM

great... another oversized fart tip :thumbs do

E-Diddy April-19th-2003 08:25 PM

guess u'r a fan of changing exhaust/mufflers....

well, actually the exhaust outlet is not that big....the muffler itself does...it sounds great...so that's all i really like....
doesn't sound much like fart either

leungwingkei April-19th-2003 09:04 PM

It looks like a fireball exhaust.

TheMAN April-20th-2003 12:47 AM

wtf are you talking about?

I get exhaust systems that actually PERFORM and does NOT have a big ass bazooka can and tip where you can fit mcdonald's fries holders in

E-Diddy April-20th-2003 02:15 AM

first of all, relax u f*ck nut...
second of all, exhaust systems that actually "PERFORM" are great in its own rights...but they cost hundreds more...and for what? you can never own the fastest car...there's always someone faster than you....important thing is to get something that suits your own taste, and not simply buy shit that "performs" when you can't even fukkin' use it on public roads that actually has a speed limit.
I ain't puttin' up posts to dis others for their own taste in car mods, so who makes you 'TheMAN"?

mygreenmazda April-20th-2003 05:23 PM

TheMAN I'm tired of your stupid comments, because they are really annoying the f**k out of me. What do you actually think that by spending 500 dollars on a whole exhaust system you are going to get 500whp, you are not . E-Diddy your muffler looks nice. So, TheMAN me and you at the track anytime with as you might call a gay, ugly, waste of money muffler, because that is what I have in my car and all my friends love it. :D :D

E-Diddy April-20th-2003 06:32 PM

mygreenmazda, nice to know that i ain't the only one who thinks TheMAN's an annoying f*ck. I may not know much about car mods, but i know that if you're a true enthusiast who wants PERFORMANCE, exhaust ain't really the top choice. Only reason I got one was for the sound and looks. If i want a fast car, i'd go turbo for HP boost.
Thanks for da note mygreenmazda btw.

mygreenmazda April-20th-2003 11:20 PM

Yep, exhaust I guess you can say is a start. Turbo well then I would say spend the money and get the best. And by the way how big is the tip is it 4 inches or 4 1/2, etc, just wondering

E-Diddy April-20th-2003 11:23 PM

i think it's 4", not too sure. I just like the fact that it comes w/ a removable silencer, so i can tune it down at night to draw less attention to cops.

mygreenmazda April-20th-2003 11:30 PM

Yep cops where I live are getting strict and I have a couple of friends who have removed their catalic converters and man that is loud. Well my muffler its a bit loud when you 3500 but overall it sounds good. I do have a silencer but just dont like the way it sounds. Just keep up the good work and well next step is turbo for me :D

Rashamon April-22nd-2003 01:21 AM

Yo, that shiet is kinda like the Apexi N1 right? How does it sound with the silencer? Does it sound really crappy? Does the silencer cut the sound down a lot? I've been looking into building a custom for over a year now, and it this summer looks like a good time to do it. I'm interested in setups like yours with the optional silencer for fear of additional run-ins with five-o.

-PeacePeace

E-Diddy April-23rd-2003 05:00 PM

rashamon: it sounds great w/ the silencer on...i actually leave the silencer on nowadays just cuz without it, it was givin' me a slight headache =P....but even w/ it on, the sound is deep and sweet...u'll like it a lot i'm sure.

MidnightDreamer April-23rd-2003 07:04 PM

Sounds like you got a sweet deal. Tell me, how did you work out the payment for the exhaust? Did u do it over the internet or what? I'm planning on getting a muffler soon, but the muffler you have seems to be great. However, when you say nice and deep, do you mean loud and farty, like Civic? Or is it nice and sexy? Either way, I'm just wondering if it's really loud or not, I really don't want to draw so much attention to my car, and I usually rev up to 4000RPM at least once a day.

E-Diddy April-23rd-2003 11:07 PM

It was a great deal that i got. I paid $100 cdn (tax included...with the muffler...and including shipping). Just gave him my credit card (if you don't feel secure just pay him through paypal...same shit). He packs it in a cardboard box tightly sealed w/ bubbles...uses one-day Fedex ground shipment. I ordered on tuesday, got it next day afternoon!

With regards to the sound, without the silencer, the thing is pretty damn loud (i got a splitting headache for a bit), but definitely NOT the farty sound u hear on some riced up civics. It's a deep throaty roar (if you may). Now, if you have the silencer on, the resonance is not as high, thus when u'r inside the sound is a lot more mild, yet you can still hear the deep throaty exhaust note clearly (just not intrusively loud). Just to let you know, the silencer itself has a rotary plate that's adjustable (you'll see if you do decide to get it). With the plate closing the holes ,the note is very mild.
To sum it up, you won't regret it, if u'r the type of person, like me, who likes a strong sounding exhaust.

Hope it helps,

Eric

MidnightDreamer April-23rd-2003 11:28 PM

LOL, that sounds great. Problem is, I don't use credit cards... I've never used pay pal either... It seems to me this muffler is pretty loud, which I don't mind. It's just I don't really want to be anoying other people with it. Tell me, does this muffler increase the horsepower at all? Or will it all be just in my head once I hear the sound?

E-Diddy April-24th-2003 12:20 AM

no credit card? well...then you'll have to email the guy at sparkco to see if you can do it w/ money order or cheque or whatever. Paypal is essentially credit card transaction, but done in a more secure fashion.

When you have the silencer on, it wouldn't annoy anybody. But for sure, cars around you would notice the deep note thats' for sure. But it won't be abnoxiously loud (even w/o silencer).

With regards to HP increase, to be honest, i dont' think it adds anything more than...maybe....2-3 HP max. By changing just the muffler, it's virtually impossible to increase any HP output. (think about it). If you expect HP gain, u better go w/ a full-cat exhaust system, or more effective, go turbo! =)

In a nutshell, the sparkco exhaust serves the purpose of giving your ride a sportier sound, and feel (only diff. that i noticed w/ the exhaust is that my car seems to be running a LITTLE smoother under hard throttle).

E-Diddy

Thanks for posting the details about your Sparkco muffler find. Unlike "The Man" I find anyone sharing their personal finds very helpful and interesting whether it's my taste or not.
I have came across this muffler before, but was unsure about quality and overall look installed. I'm also from the GTA area and have found a couple muffler shops that seem to do custom and higher quality work. The only thing I would recommend is going to Noyz Boyz or this shop in Brampton (name escapes me) to have the install done. Only reason I say this is because they both use stainless pipe and hanging rods...also mandrel bending. I have seen others done from your typical Speedy or Midas shops and after one Winter in Toronto everything is rusted except for the muffler. They might charge a little more but it will probably last at least twice as long.
E-Diddy are you a member of TOprotege club?

E-Diddy April-24th-2003 09:03 AM

ESsedan01: Yes I am. Same nickname. You?

ESsedan01 April-24th-2003 10:06 AM

yes I am...same nick name as well. Are you going to the rookie meet on May 3?
I would like to hear your exhaust some time.

Just once a day? I normally shift around 4000. :p You aren't going to hurt your engine by revving it, possibly your drivetrain though if you are new to 5-speeds.

E-Diddy April-24th-2003 10:52 AM

I might go to the meet. But not sure cuz i have to confirm whether i'm going to wonderland that day or not =P
But yea, it'll be cool to see everybody's proteges.
are you going Essedan01?

Yeah, I'll be there. For one reason, I am considered as a rookie to the club and it would be nice to finally put some faces to the names. As well I want to see the other member's rides! Try to make if you can.

E-Diddy April-24th-2003 11:21 AM

Same here dude. I've only had the p5 for like 3 months, and have seen tons of proteges cruisin' around sauga and t.o. Would like to meet ppl in person too. I'll try my best. BTW, my name is Eric.
