i think it's 4", not too sure. I just like the fact that it comes w/ a removable silencer, so i can tune it down at night to draw less attention to cops.

mygreenmazda April-20th-2003 11:30 PM

Yep cops where I live are getting strict and I have a couple of friends who have removed their catalic converters and man that is loud. Well my muffler its a bit loud when you 3500 but overall it sounds good. I do have a silencer but just dont like the way it sounds. Just keep up the good work and well next step is turbo for me :D

Yo, that shiet is kinda like the Apexi N1 right? How does it sound with the silencer? Does it sound really crappy? Does the silencer cut the sound down a lot? I've been looking into building a custom for over a year now, and it this summer looks like a good time to do it. I'm interested in setups like yours with the optional silencer for fear of additional run-ins with five-o.

rashamon: it sounds great w/ the silencer on...i actually leave the silencer on nowadays just cuz without it, it was givin' me a slight headache =P....but even w/ it on, the sound is deep and sweet...u'll like it a lot i'm sure.

Sounds like you got a sweet deal. Tell me, how did you work out the payment for the exhaust? Did u do it over the internet or what? I'm planning on getting a muffler soon, but the muffler you have seems to be great. However, when you say nice and deep, do you mean loud and farty, like Civic? Or is it nice and sexy? Either way, I'm just wondering if it's really loud or not, I really don't want to draw so much attention to my car, and I usually rev up to 4000RPM at least once a day.

E-Diddy April-23rd-2003 11:07 PM

It was a great deal that i got. I paid $100 cdn (tax included...with the muffler...and including shipping). Just gave him my credit card (if you don't feel secure just pay him through paypal...same shit). He packs it in a cardboard box tightly sealed w/ bubbles...uses one-day Fedex ground shipment. I ordered on tuesday, got it next day afternoon!

With regards to the sound, without the silencer, the thing is pretty damn loud (i got a splitting headache for a bit), but definitely NOT the farty sound u hear on some riced up civics. It's a deep throaty roar (if you may). Now, if you have the silencer on, the resonance is not as high, thus when u'r inside the sound is a lot more mild, yet you can still hear the deep throaty exhaust note clearly (just not intrusively loud). Just to let you know, the silencer itself has a rotary plate that's adjustable (you'll see if you do decide to get it). With the plate closing the holes ,the note is very mild.
To sum it up, you won't regret it, if u'r the type of person, like me, who likes a strong sounding exhaust.

Hope it helps,

Eric

LOL, that sounds great. Problem is, I don't use credit cards... I've never used pay pal either... It seems to me this muffler is pretty loud, which I don't mind. It's just I don't really want to be anoying other people with it. Tell me, does this muffler increase the horsepower at all? Or will it all be just in my head once I hear the sound?

E-Diddy April-24th-2003 12:20 AM

no credit card? well...then you'll have to email the guy at sparkco to see if you can do it w/ money order or cheque or whatever. Paypal is essentially credit card transaction, but done in a more secure fashion.

When you have the silencer on, it wouldn't annoy anybody. But for sure, cars around you would notice the deep note thats' for sure. But it won't be abnoxiously loud (even w/o silencer).

With regards to HP increase, to be honest, i dont' think it adds anything more than...maybe....2-3 HP max. By changing just the muffler, it's virtually impossible to increase any HP output. (think about it). If you expect HP gain, u better go w/ a full-cat exhaust system, or more effective, go turbo! =)

In a nutshell, the sparkco exhaust serves the purpose of giving your ride a sportier sound, and feel (only diff. that i noticed w/ the exhaust is that my car seems to be running a LITTLE smoother under hard throttle).

E-Diddy

Thanks for posting the details about your Sparkco muffler find. Unlike "The Man" I find anyone sharing their personal finds very helpful and interesting whether it's my taste or not.
I have came across this muffler before, but was unsure about quality and overall look installed. I'm also from the GTA area and have found a couple muffler shops that seem to do custom and higher quality work. The only thing I would recommend is going to Noyz Boyz or this shop in Brampton (name escapes me) to have the install done. Only reason I say this is because they both use stainless pipe and hanging rods...also mandrel bending. I have seen others done from your typical Speedy or Midas shops and after one Winter in Toronto everything is rusted except for the muffler. They might charge a little more but it will probably last at least twice as long.
E-Diddy are you a member of TOprotege club?

ESsedan01: Yes I am. Same nickname. You?

ESsedan01 April-24th-2003 10:06 AM

yes I am...same nick name as well. Are you going to the rookie meet on May 3?
I would like to hear your exhaust some time.

Just once a day? I normally shift around 4000. :p You aren't going to hurt your engine by revving it, possibly your drivetrain though if you are new to 5-speeds.

E-Diddy April-24th-2003 10:52 AM

I might go to the meet. But not sure cuz i have to confirm whether i'm going to wonderland that day or not =P
But yea, it'll be cool to see everybody's proteges.
are you going Essedan01?
