Question short throw shifter

Has anyone tried to just cut a few inches off the stock shifter rather then buy a kit?

You could probably TRY that.. but unless you are or know someone who is really good at it, yer welds may not be adequate.

It may be more hassle then its worth. Besides.. a new short shifter will usually be nickel plated.. mo betta

that's exactly what i did, well actually it was my gf's dad that did the work but anyway, i cut off the threaded piece at the top, removed the shifter extension or whatever that piece was and then welded the threded piece back on, plus he was able to move the ball up almost an inch, so all that plus the shifter that i made at home and it's like an mp3 shifter, or atleast it looks like the pictures, someday i'll post some pics of it

But your shifter throws are still gonna be the same length. A short shifter means that the throw is shorter not the actual length of the shifter itself. You can have the shift **** as high as the dash and it can still be a short shifter as the throws are smaller.

I have done that on my Prelude, but the throw doesn't really shorten. Although, I have noticed that the shifting is a bit stiffer. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Cutting/shortening the shifter is pointless unless you also lengthen the part below the pivot point...

hey i like your gen5, i have one too.

btw, the guy asked about cutting the lever, that's why i
recommended the short **** idea. actually for a lot of people,
the shortened **** is enough as most are just trying to rid
some slop and the long throw distance. i use a kartboy so
yah, its a real short throw, but its also added alot of weight
to the shortened lever too... sometimes too stiff for my wife
to shift the car out of reverse.

hi Flecky and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

one thing....if you read the rules of the forum before you started posting....you would know its a big NO NO to double post....please don't post the same thread in mulitple forums....select the correct one and post it there. For that reason I am merging this thread with the other one.
