Help Me!

My Protege just had a problem!

When I ran my OBD-II scanner, it picked up the code P0771 - Shift Solenoid E Performance or Stuck Off. Lately, when I drive say 60, all of a sudden the car slows down and a blinking O/D light comes up.

I cleared the check engine light, so I'm waiting for it to pop up again.

But lately, this flashing O/D light has come on quite a few times. I just turn off the car, turn back on and it goes away. But the check engine followed today.

Is there a quick fix, inexpensive fixed; or am I going to have to bend over for the dealer?

This is a 1.6L 2000 Protege.
