Question Resealing the oil pan

Hi all,

After 100K miles I have got a slow oil leak from under the oil pan seal in my 1.6L DOHC Protege 2000. Not exactly a disaster, but I would like to fix it. That's my first time to do something that serious on this Protege (did it last time on Escort 5 years ago). Few questions:

* getting there: any tips on dropping exhaust (rusty bolts?) and transmission stiffener?

* inside: am I looking into removing and resealing MBSP (Main Bearing Support Plate)? According to Haynes book this one looks kind of like "second pan" and is right under it, but it is not clear if it is present in my particular engine - just to know how much sealing work to expect;

* what's the best tool/solvent to clean the old sealant?

Any extra tips? Thanks in advance!
