Ford makes some nice cars, they just sell them in Europe. We get the Taurus.

Damn that's a nice car considering it's made by Ford.

It's on the S40/Mazda3 chassis, though the 5-cyl turbo is obviously no Mazda engine *looks toward Volvo*

so killer looking. love everything about it! I can't get enough of that 'kinetic design' style euro Ford uses (mondeo, s-max, focus, and others)

in my eyes it totally kicks the butt of the Audi A3 and for a bit less money!

It's for real a 5-cyl? That's odd..

_Kansei_ September-10th-2007 03:38 PM

it's not that weird.. it's not like it's a V engine, it's inline. It gives you half the power boost of a V6 vs i4 but without the full fuel economy hit of the V6.

JoshP5 September-10th-2007 03:59 PM

That stuff has more to do with displacement (and other factors) than configuration. The I-5 was more likely selected for packaging reasons.

_Kansei_ September-10th-2007 04:07 PM

I'm not sure what packaging reasons though, as a 2.5 i4 vs 2.5 i5.. the i5 is going to be longer. I know volvo has been doing 5 cylinders since at least the mid 80s so I would imagine part of the reason was that a 4-cylinder of that displacement would have been VERY unrefined back then. A 2.5 4 is hardly refined even today.

JoshP5 September-10th-2007 04:15 PM

Haha--remember the Porsche 968--3 liters of inline 4 fury! But balance shafts tamed the intrinsic secondary balance problems.

Ford's engine selection probably had to do with what was available in the parts bin, too.

good call on the volvo engine http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...cleId=108108#5
selling for $30,611 U.S. if they bring it here I hope they drop the price a bit, vw gti mk5's are fully loaded for that in the states

my problem with the svt from was there wasnt any advertising about it, the only reason i found out about it existed was bc a friend drove 5 hours to buy one lol ford has too much money in their trucks and mustangs imo

maybe when i graduate college i can get a job in europe lol

_Kansei_ September-10th-2007 08:14 PM

The euro focus does not really compete with the Gti .. think Audi A3.. which can get over 36k no issue.

competes with the Volvo C30 as well.
