How is the dealer able to pull that off since the Mazdaspeed Pro isn't out yet? I also don't see Mazda corp supplying parts and cost for labor of installation of anything above and beyond stock due to their efforts to keep warranty claims down. Either way good thing it's fixed. I'm just suprised they would do anything beyond installing a new set of rod and main bearings.

Let me be a little clearer. You don't take your V6 Mustang into the dealer with a rod knock and come out with a V8. Based on same principle, you don't take your Protege in for a rod knock and come out with an upgraded motor. But I also haven't searched the specs on the Mazdaspeed Pro. Except for the turbo, intercooler and related hardware are the engines the same? If so, I can see his statement being true. If not, I just want to know how he got the dealer to upgrade so I can work a rod loose and get me an upgrade too. Legitimate question. Don't have to roll your eyes about it...

Thumbs up

You can call them if you'd like... I know whats going under my hood though. I've seen the new parts and they are definately re-designed. I was shocked as well, (reguarding the Mazdaspeed parts) but they pulled through! We also had to get the newley designed Engine gasket set, part # 8gb310271, witch is what is used on the Mazda speed Eng. Different from my org. P5 ones, I also saw these and they are different as well

Good thing. I'd like to know if you feel any difference when you get it back and most of all, if the cold engine rattle is gone.

rodslinger, sorry for the confusion, my post wasn't meant towards you.

I was rolling my eyes at how blatantly this guy was trying to make himself sound better than everyone else withwhat he has done to his car. I dislike huge egos.

Thanks!

THE MAN....

But I do know for a fact that the parts were different, I held them side by side, 1 example were the pins coming from the lower rod were re-designed. those are what caused the problems in the first place, mazda told me that they have seen this too few of times to have it a recall but it is aparent enough that they are using different, redisigned parts. hence the same parts being used in the mazda speed eng.(with the problem fixed) You say it's the same eng. I agree, although there are "fixes" they are aware of that have been changed in the MS eng, witch they are using in my eng, from instead of putting in the same parts that would have the same problem. thats all I was saying. Hell even the low end of the block looked even a little different.
