New Mazdaspeed question :D

OK so I decided im getting rid of my civic si becuase I want somthing more fun and as fast to drive, and I think the mazdaspeed protege will almost be as fast as my turbo charged si. The thing is I just want to make sure I can increase the boost past 8 psi or whatever stock is, I do not care about voiding the warrentee becuase I will probley up the boost last after I finish with other mods I have planed. I was also wondering if I should wait for the silver one to come out in 2003.6 becuase that one looks sweet (please post another picture link to it thanks). So do you guys think mazdaspeed can match up with my turbo'd si? Im talking about just straight off acceleration of 1/4 mile I know for fact mazdaspeed is going to own it in handling. Thanks for your time guys.

with enough time and money, you can up the boost on anything with a blow dryer attached to it.

no. i'm saying that anything can be done to the car. i have no expert knowledge of turbos, good or bad.

ps, if your civic sounds anything like the one i heard this morning, please get the mazdaspeed.

I doubt a mazdaspeed could take a turboed si on a straight away. Depending on your set-up. My friends 2000 si is built with a drag turbo running 12 pounds of boost. He's hitting close to 300hp. So, in a straight drag I would put my money on the si. In the twisties MS all the way.

my si runs high 13's with the turbo ;\ I think ms runs high 14's? low 15's? So with that extra boost mby low 14's so I guess si > ms for straightaway ;\ but if it had I/E/H then it would be a different story for shure

You cannot increase the boost past 10 psi without chaning the computer. Computer cuts fuel if it sees pass 10 psi.

Well me and a couple of my friends were talking about this situation tonight. As you know, the MSP comes w/157whp at 6psi of boost. The exhaust piping on it is no bigger than 2.25. If you were to add intake, 2.5 exhaust, and headers, that should give you approx. an extra 20-30hp.

Now to the boost. It is set at 6psi. You can probably bypass the computer (void warranty but who cares) to get to at least 10psi. You gain approx. 10hp per psi/boost. So that should be another 40hp. So lets say 25hp (from the first mods) + 40hp=65 more hp. This should put you at est.222hp which should increase your 1/4 mile by probably almost a full second.
Don't forget changing your ECU to Haltech or something which may add even more hp.

Does this theory sound about right to anyone b/c it does to me? Just doing some of my in the clouds thinking.

thanks pseudo...I was itching to say that....back on track...get rid of the civic...the boost can be increased if the engine is tuned properly...I dont think the stock exhaust is really that restrictive on the MSP,at least from the cat-back...maybe a bigger downpipe, and an intake..although I'm guessing money would be better spent on an intercooler upgrade and maybe just do a pop charger style intake so you can flow more air...

Even if you get past the ECU and Intercooler you still have to worry about that transmission as well that probably won't be able to handle the extra force when the turbo is bumped up to 12 psi.

Hahahahahah....Indeed. that Civic dude said it too, something like if the mazdaspeed had I/E/H it would be a different story. It would be a different story seeing as how the MSP would no longer be turbocharged... Sorry I had to.

Anyway, it has been said before that with the right knowledge, money, and time you can easily make the Mazdaspeed more powerful. Just do enough research and don't **** up one of the 1500 MSP's and you should keep enough friends on here to keep you out of to much trouble. Just don't come back after you buy one and start asking about headers that will fit your new Mazdaspeed, that would result in endless badgering and harassment.

Braden's done over 250whp....

And this has a limited slip (solves the weak diff issue) and the thicker axles (solves the weak axles issue)....

The last issue is the weak case...not much you can do about that.
I thought the G series trans was good for about 350 hp??
Or were these people you mentioned above using the F series??
