N/a Pr5

After having gone through the process of putting a turbo on a non-turbo car, I have decided the PR5 is not getting FI.

I am creating a car that will have 155-170 at the wheels and be reliable enough to campaign at a road course. Since I am new to this engine, I am looking for suggestions and insight from those who might have done this already.

I plan on raising the compression to 10.7-11.0:1, new cams (possibly custom unless the MazdaSpeed cams will suffice), port & polish, extrude honed intake manifold, full exhaust (would somebody PLEASE finish a header for this car), and an basic cold air-type intake. I don't like pulleys and won't use them. This is going to be a good old-fashioned do-what-makes-power project. Clutch and flywheel are in the future as well.

Are there any people out there who have had real experience (tear down & modding) with this engine that could provide some help? I have most of what I need to go FI but don't need the fuel management headache and the broken parts that go with it.

Thanks to those who can help. We have had this car for 5 months and I can't stand leaving it alone for another day.

Try calling Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development. The Speedvision Cup cars, which they helped build, are a good representation of what's possible with a heavily modded n/a FS-DE engine (~215 fwhp). However, keep in mind that it is $$expensive$$ to even approach this power level. Even hitting your 155-170 hp goal is going to cost a lot because you will need aftermarket EFI to exceed the stock ECU's 6800 rpm rev limit. With no FI, you will probably need at least 7500 rpm to move enough air to hit that horsepower level.

How much money are you willing to spend? Sunbelt will build a nice motor for these cars (200hp+), but you're looking upwards of $16-17k .

dOOD...that is where we are looking! We are just curious to know if anyone here has done this work before and how much we can expect to gain by doing the cams, exhaust, etc.

Thanks for your support!
