Is my transmission dead?!?

Ok, so here is the story: I was making a left turn, and I let the clutch out too early and ground it going into second. Pushed the clutch in and second went in smoothly. Now I have no first gear. The shifter will not go into first at all, it goes into the slot, but won't engage. Let me put it this way, when you go into first, you feel the slight pressure before it "clunks" into first, well, you feel the pressure but it will not go past halfway into first.

Any ideas?

Hmmmm. I'm far from an expert, but it could just be your synchros? Is it giving you any trouble at all going into or holding any other gear?

That is what I am thinking, it will not physically engage in first at all. Looks like I am going to be digging in my tranny.

Sounds more like a fork to me...

While you are in there - inspect/replace synchros & clutch too. Maybe now is the time for that new lightened pressure plate too.... Or just replace with an MSP unit? HHHhhmmmh.

Yeah, I am going to go ahead and get a new/better clutch and a lightweight flywheel. Might as well since it is all off, right?

well, news: it engages in first now, but only some times. bliping the throttle, releasing the clutch in neutral, and/or changing gears with the clutch in will not help if it will not enter first. other than that, its fine. also seem to have a horrible makarana noise... like if i ground hte teeth completely off the gear and they are rattling when i hit the brakes hard..

I dunno - sounds like like clutch when you say this... Either way - remove/inspect/replace as required.

I was wondering the same, but wouldnt that affect all gears and not just first?

Not necessarily... It just may be affecting first more and would continue to affect the other gears if you kept driving it.

I dunno' - you will know when you open the case!
