ya man im really confused now. ive decided to turbo my 99pro 1.6L dohc. But the problem is; its got about 127,000mi!! for sure im gonna be running a turbo in my pro. But now im thinkin to get an engine swap..maybe get a talon or an eclipse motor!!! Also i asked the guys of the wagner turbo kit and they said that my car can handle it and they will custom fab the turbo in for free.... BTW; my car is an auto as well!!

not worth it.. it would take a fully custom job to do it and by that time you can make your 1.6l stronger and ALOT MORE reliable than a dsm.. if you do any swap that is that crazy do a BP motor.. also the 00 99 1.6l has a 1.5l 130hp engine swap available..

the 1.5l has SVT (sequential valve timing) thats where it makes it power.. the good thing about the 1.5l head is that it bolts up the the 1.6l block

the engine is a direct bolt in, but you need some way to control the svt, something like a aftermarket VVT controller would work in theory..

Just a side note ... DSM are junk. No offense to any previous/current DSM owners but I think we all know this has a lot of truth to it. The cars have ***** no doubt, but the reliability is a big big issue.

My brother owns a 95 TSI Talon which pushed close to 500HP (I'm not kidding ... I can show you guys proof) but it runs only about 2 months out of the whole year. He's not the only one though, all his DSM buddies and all the people I've known with DSM's encounter numerous problems with their cars so I figure there's no hope to those cars.

One thing after another goes wrong on that engine, and it's just not worth the trouble.

Funny thing you say that, cuz I was having the exact same thoughts as you about two months ago when my brother's friend said he was putting a 4G63 out of a GSX Eclipse into his Avenger. He also said he would convert it into AWD by using the GSX suspension and drivetrain, which just seemed like way too much work for an Avenger.

Then the next thing I know, he's actually got the whole project finished within a matter of weeks.

But as far as putting a 4G63 in a Protege goes, it probably won't happen like you said ...

in an avenger is a bit different, considering it was built off the eclipse chassis

So this engine u guys r talkin about wat car is it out of!!!! And how much it would cost?? Does it com with tranny???? Where would i get one???? And i would definetly hav to ditch the auto tranny, cause i would like to convert the pro to a manual.

just turbo the 1.6L...trying to put the ZL-VE head and get the ECU(required) would not be cost effective for the gain you would get. Just to point out though the Tranny from the 1.6L will work with a ZL-VE
