Mazdaspeed turbo on a p5?
DonSVO, welcome fellow turbo-ford brother. I myself have a few and love them.
98% of your posts are spot-on and accurate.....the other 2% (like this post) is off.
There are a few vendors who make a tubular turbo header for the fs-de....they aren't but a couple hundred bucks.. My SVO header was almost $500.
Also as a former MSP owner my MSP hit full boost at 2800rpms and sometimes sooner. The small T25 is beneifical for the protege motor because of how quickly it builds boost and it's sizing. The stock block fs-de's won't handle much and the T25 will provide more than enough huff to blow a block to pieces. The T25 loses efficiency around 19psi but thats still over 260whp.
As for intercoolers, I'm sure someone could alter some 10yr old piece to WORK....but I'm willing to bet you dinner he wants something that looks good in the grill opening. I started my TurboII project with a volvo intercooler....it worked but looked like ***.
Also the mazdaspeed manifold and turbo won't allow for a very good exhaust like you mentioned. It's very cramped coiming off the exhaust housing....very. I know, I was one of the first people to design a downpipe for the msp and due to the restrictions of space you can't fit anything there without moving the turbo or the subframe.
Welcome to the club...lets talk turbo-fords sometime!!

anytime, man.
i dont see where a tight-bend downpipe couldn't work. sure, massaging some things might be in order but i think it can be done. i myself am learning more about these cars as it is, so i will have to take a closer look.
mine doesn't have a boost gauge yet. hell, i just got it yesterday and i already ordered a boost controller, pillar pod, oil pressure and boost gauges. it doesn't feel like it sees any real power until 4000 rpm. oh well. i am sure that my SVO has spoiled me in that regard. going from 94 rwhp at 2800 rpm to 232 rwhp at 3600 rpm is night and day.
the SC intercooler is great for a number of reasons. it supports enough cooling capabilites for a mid-200 rwhp car. its easy to find, and cheap. also, i like the fact that it isn't all shiny and ****. i prefer the 'incognito' look.
i bet i could get a buddy of mine to build headers for these cars for a serious chunk less than whats out there. i have a jet-hot coated log header that picked up damn near 20 rwhp on my car as it is... $260 shipped. you must have an ATR header.
is it the late-model one with the support brackets???
so these things have a T25 ehhh?? time to call up mike schwartz... slapping a new compressor wheel on there with a ported housing shouldn't be too tough! and uhhhh, slide by under the warranty *****...

Well, I can't sell my turbo anymore, I totalled my MSP.......... Such a sad car to go........ it was such a great car. The only thing that got to me was the windshield wipers........ other than that, the car was great......... especially the cornering; and the power was sufficient for mountain racing also. Man, so sad about it...........
Well, looks like I'm gonna get an RSX-TYPE S next, the K20 rocks, leather, 6speed........... I just hope it will satisfy me like the MSP did.
