Mazdaspeed Exhaust

I was looking at the Mazdaspeed exhaust system, but it says it will only work on 01-03 models. Will it work on a 2000 Pro, and if not, why? Thanks.

It fits the Protege5, I'd imagine it would fit the sedan as well. I believe they make two versions...

One for the Pro5 and the other for the MP3/MSP. You would want the latter for the sedan.

Yes it will fit. I have one on my 99 Pro. The "Mazdaspeed" exhaust is different than the Racing Beat cat-back that's stock on the MP3/MSP. Its just an axle back compared to a full cat-back system.

Oh, thanks. I'm assuming the racing beat exhaust will set me back more though?

The "cat" (catalytic converter) is the thing right at the beginning of the exhaust pipe (I think anyway, heh):

It eliminates a lot of exhaust emissions.

I'm liking it...but I wished it sounded more like yours. The main thing I hate about it is the fart noise at ~3K RPM. Oh well, I guess I'm a riceboy.

I'm thinking about the Mazdaspeed axel back for my new 03 P5. Is it loud like the fart cans that cost under 100 bucks?

keep in mind negatize has the 1.6L in his '99 LX, thus the fartcan effect from the muffler.

Just about everyone that bolted one onto their F-series engine (1.8 or 2.0) loved the low growly sound.

I love mine

That is true. Here's a sound clip if you want to see how it sounds on my car:

http://www.morrownet.net/negatize/so...azdaspeed2.wav

I like the low growl at startup, idle, etc. It's around ~3K it sounds kinda bad. Not as bad as some I've heard, OTOH.

Sounds good!!! I like the growl too. My friend has a Lancer OZ with the RMR cat back that the dealer installed and it sounds just like the the Mazdaspeed on your car.
