Mazda Sport Exhaust

I was wondering.......... Is this sport muffler going to be the same one Racing beat is going to use on their soon to be availablle (for i don't know how long now) cat back system? If so then you can just use the muffler now and get the pipe from the catback when it is available. With the full set I'm sure it will be some improvement.

The "Sport Muffler" for the P5 is made by Mazda. It is a MazdaSpeed part with "mazdaspeed" etcched on the tip. I just put one on my car a week ago. The part number for the P5 is 0000 8M C10. The P5 is shorter than the sedan, so the MP3 exhaust will not work on the P5. Racing Beat is making a full "cat back" unit for the P5... at $500.
The Mazda Muffler is $220 retail.

O i'm assuming if i get the sport muffler from Racing beat ( i got a sedan) then get a custom mandrel bent pipe from the cat back, I'll (theoretically) have the racing back cat-back system. THat is assuming that they are still going to use the same muffler for their system. I'm thinking of getting a custom exhaust system and figured since the sport muffler was "tuned" by racing beat then it might be beneficial to get that exhaust instead of any universal muffler. I might be going out on a limb with this idea but what do you guys think?

I like my sport muffler from mazda... It sounds great, low toned, not tin can like. Those type exhausts are so annoying!
As far as a horsepower gain...probably none, but I just wanted a more sporty sound.
It was easy to put on.

I think you should read the rest of Racing Beat's web site. All the parts they developed for the MP3 while under contract by Mazda belong to Mazda, incuding the 'sport' muffler. Racing Beat cannot reproduce and sell any of those parts. The cat-back exhaust Racing Beat developed uses 60mm stainless steel tubing, and a straight through muffler. None of this is the same as the exhaust or muffler they developed for the MP3.

Very true, the length and diameter of the primary runners in a header are what affect the engines power curve. The exhuast from the catalytic convertor back has little effect other than being restrictive and reducing power if it is too small. Since our engines have the stock manifold mated to a close coupled catalytic convertor, which is the primary restriction in the exhaust system, a cat-back exhaust doesn't provide as much benefit as it could. It will not hurt performance however, and will help even more if and when a header is installed in place of the stock exhaust manifold and close coupled cat.

Cat-backs, if designed properly will not usually sacrifice much if any power, and will really begin to help after torque peak, which with a P5, is where you need as much help as possible.
