Mazda Sport Exhaust

I was just wondering if anyone has purchased or knows any information on the sports exhaust that mazda is offering with the P5? Any info would help me out

I just purchased two for both of my p5's on Tuesday, and bolted them on last night. Wow...WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The pre-refresh 5Spd sounds great, while my mid-cycle refresh auto drives WAY better, as well as a little deeper than the stick for some reason. I took the auto to work today (63 miles one way to this particular office), and I think the gas mileage has improved (i'll know on the way home).

BC-Mazda - Yes there have been other posts about it. I think a search will help you find them.

I installed the "Mazdaspeed" Sport Exhust today. First I want to say the quality is outstanding. I can't beleive I only paid $200 US for it.

The install was pretty easy, even for one guy (me).

I only ran it for about 30 minutes after install - but here is my opions so far:

It is louder than stock. Surprisingly it is bearly audible at idle - which is something I really liked about the stock setup - the Sport Exhaust did not change that. There is more of a noticialbe "drone" espeacially after 3,000 rpm. Although this car is my daily driver, I bought the car because it INVOLVED me in the driving experience - and the Sport Exhaust just amplifies this experience. When I drive this car I want to just plain drive it, not carry on detailed converstions with my wife, etc.. So for me, I like the pipe, and will keep it. (I will run a dyno test in a couple of weeks and post the results from that.) For me, the only change as far as usability goes for the car because of the Sport Exhaust is that, a couple times a year I make a 600 mile drive (round trip) to visit my folks. With the addition of the Sport Exhaust I guess I would think twice about taking my P5, I may think about using my wifes Impala instead. So for the guys concerned about noise levels, I would strongly suggest trying a test drive with someone that already has one - maybe work with your delaer on this. If you think it is going to be too loud - spend your money on a short ram or cold air intake. They will give you a little performance increase, make a little more noise, but not a lot more noise.

Later tonight, I took my wife and I out for dinner - did a 30 minute drive - mostly highway. To my surprise my wife really liked the exhuast, and did not think it was too loud.

PS - Mazdaboy - I'm in Robbinsdale - where are you? You don't perchance work for Morries Mazda?

jaisai01 June-23rd-2002 12:59 AM

and does anyone know if the mazdaspeed exhaust for sedans will be a direct bolt on for the 00 ES protege

mike95 June-23rd-2002 01:09 AM

Is this exhaust covered under mazda's warranty? Will mazda install it? Also, is it a catback or just a muffler and does it actually inprove the power.

bkail June-23rd-2002 07:03 AM

jaisai01,

I have a 2002 P5. I don't know if its the same for the sedans, but on mine - the Sport Exhaust is a "axle-back" - the tail pip, muffler, and about 2 feet more of pipe. To uninstall old exhuast - loop bungi cords around exhaust, remove to bolt nuts, and remove the two exhasut prongs from the rubber hangers - to install - reverse procedure. So easy even I could do it. Oh, you will need to jack the car up at the one corner. A hydraulic jack comes in handy.

as far as the warrantee....no or probably not....its a add on, however, it will be warrantied for defects like any other part you buy from the dealer, YES the dealer will install it for you if you like.

Mazdaspeed Exhaust Sound Clips / Pics Here!

I took these in my garage with a laptop, and windows sound recorder. The sound is distorted at times from the high-amounts of bass produced. Only hearing it in person will do them justice. If you don't have a good sub for your PC, you're really missing out on the sound. The hissing at the end is from my Injen intake. I think it's just the air rushing out of the piping upon shutdown.

For pics fo the exhaust, click here.

For the sound clips, (thanks to Protetype for the space :p ) look below:
