Mazda Sport Exhaust
I was just wondering if anyone has purchased or knows any information on the sports exhaust that mazda is offering with the P5? Any info would help me out
|
hmmm, nothing yet huh? and i wanted to know as well...

Go buy one and learn the search function of the website. It's all over the place :mach: |
I just purchased two for both of my p5's on Tuesday, and bolted them on last night. Wow...WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The pre-refresh 5Spd sounds great, while my mid-cycle refresh auto drives WAY better, as well as a little deeper than the stick for some reason. I took the auto to work today (63 miles one way to this particular office), and I think the gas mileage has improved (i'll know on the way home).

hehe, i dug up this post (well, it's not that old) just to see if he got it.
|
I am thinking about getting the sport exhaust, too. Please let us know how well it peforms.:)
|
I ordered it on Monday and got it on thursday... I love having a sedan in situtations like this. The P5 is backorder.
As for how it performs and sounds, I will let you knwo as soon as I have time to install it. |
BC-Mazda - Yes there have been other posts about it. I think a search will help you find them.
I installed the "Mazdaspeed" Sport Exhust today. First I want to say the quality is outstanding. I can't beleive I only paid $200 US for it. The install was pretty easy, even for one guy (me). I only ran it for about 30 minutes after install - but here is my opions so far: It is louder than stock. Surprisingly it is bearly audible at idle - which is something I really liked about the stock setup - the Sport Exhaust did not change that. There is more of a noticialbe "drone" espeacially after 3,000 rpm. Although this car is my daily driver, I bought the car because it INVOLVED me in the driving experience - and the Sport Exhaust just amplifies this experience. When I drive this car I want to just plain drive it, not carry on detailed converstions with my wife, etc.. So for me, I like the pipe, and will keep it. (I will run a dyno test in a couple of weeks and post the results from that.) For me, the only change as far as usability goes for the car because of the Sport Exhaust is that, a couple times a year I make a 600 mile drive (round trip) to visit my folks. With the addition of the Sport Exhaust I guess I would think twice about taking my P5, I may think about using my wifes Impala instead. So for the guys concerned about noise levels, I would strongly suggest trying a test drive with someone that already has one - maybe work with your delaer on this. If you think it is going to be too loud - spend your money on a short ram or cold air intake. They will give you a little performance increase, make a little more noise, but not a lot more noise. Later tonight, I took my wife and I out for dinner - did a 30 minute drive - mostly highway. To my surprise my wife really liked the exhuast, and did not think it was too loud. - Brian PS - Mazdaboy - I'm in Robbinsdale - where are you? You don't perchance work for Morries Mazda? |
hey bkail, what year pro do u got. and what did u use to install it. i am ordering mine on tuesday
|
and does anyone know if the mazdaspeed exhaust for sedans will be a direct bolt on for the 00 ES protege
|
Is this exhaust covered under mazda's warranty? Will mazda install it? Also, is it a catback or just a muffler and does it actually inprove the power.
|
jaisai01,
I have a 2002 P5. I don't know if its the same for the sedans, but on mine - the Sport Exhaust is a "axle-back" - the tail pip, muffler, and about 2 feet more of pipe. To uninstall old exhuast - loop bungi cords around exhaust, remove to bolt nuts, and remove the two exhasut prongs from the rubber hangers - to install - reverse procedure. So easy even I could do it. Oh, you will need to jack the car up at the one corner. A hydraulic jack comes in handy. - Woody |

Mazdaspeed Exhaust Sound Clips / Pics Here!
I took these in my garage with a laptop, and windows sound recorder. The sound is distorted at times from the high-amounts of bass produced. Only hearing it in person will do them justice. If you don't have a good sub for your PC, you're really missing out on the sound. The hissing at the end is from my Injen intake. I think it's just the air rushing out of the piping upon shutdown.
For pics fo the exhaust, click here. For the sound clips, (thanks to Protetype for the space :p ) look below: http://www.logicdesigning.com/pchosting/maxxmazda/2.wav http://www.logicdesigning.com/pchosting/maxxmazda/3.wav http://www.logicdesigning.com/pchosting/maxxmazda/5.wav Hope you enjoy, and comments welcome! |
sounds good. how much of a difference (besides the noise) are you noticing on the road?
|
Not much of a performance difference, but it sure gets alot more looks rolling through the parking lots!
|
yeah, they are noisy little buggers it seems.
|

|
ya the mazda tech i know, wnet into the computer system and looked at it for me. he said the axle back part is the same.
|
thanks jaisai, hehe i just noticed you also got the best color for proteges back in year 2000 :D
great minds think alike! :D :D :D |
haha, ya they do. i jsut got it lowered a few days back and jsut painted the front calipers blue and am gonna do the drunms metallic silver. and with the exhaust iw ill be set for a lil while.
|
is your car lowered? i put my axel back on and it sits at the factory hieght so there is a little bit of room around the tip and the rear bumper. yours looks like it sags abit.
|
Exhaust Clarification?
After reading through many of the posts here, I have become a little confused about the MazdaSpeed and Mazda Sport Exhaust. Is the one available from Mazdastuff.com the one with Mazdaspeed etched on the exhaust tip? Or is that a different one? From reading the posts, I want to get the Mazdaspeed one, but just want to make sure I order the correct one.
Thanks |
Vibrantvivid,
No, My car isn't lowered. The exhaust doesn't really sag that much, it's perfectly centered in the opening. It may just be the angle of the picture. Check out the "WWW" button below for pictures from different angles. Do you have any pics of your so I can see what you're talking about? |
I also want to add that it gets louder as your car warms up more. So therefore I think the hotter the engine, the more noise it makes..You get used to it after a while, When I first had it installed I thought it was loud, after awhile it isn't that bad..
|
again, great pics and sounds from Maxx Mazda, thanks again :)
now, can any of the SEDAN owners take a picture of their Mazdaspeed exhaust and post it here??? |
It isn`t obnoxiously loud though. Its more of a soothing bass than anything else. You definitely notice it and if hearing more noise inside the cabin is something you dont want, then dont get this muffler.
It has a nice deep sound during acceleration and decelaration, but over 4200RPM, it doesnt make a sound. All you hear is your intake and engine. I like the way it changes over like that and has made me start driving at slightly higher rpms.:) I've had mine on for 3 days. I had a hell of a time taking the old muffler out since the bolts were already rusted and one of them warped when I started taking it off. I had to cut it off with a dremel. But it seems I am the only one who had any kind of difficulty taking it off. If it hadnt of been for that bolt, it would have been very easy. |
Here are the part numbers for the different exhausts.

hey zoomzoom h, well i finally got myself a dig camera today. i get my exhasut tomorrow and the tech said he will do it for free. thats if the part comes in like it is supposed to tomorrow. i will pst the pic on sat morn. i am soo happy i can finally take pics of my car. :)
|
also does having an intake make the noise louder. or will it sitll be loud witht eh stock air box. cuz i want it deep and throaty
|
I plan on doing my calipers blue to match my blue drums, and I think Midnight Blue is a nice colour. The new Blue on the Pro 5 looks like purple in the sunlight (Yuck) :barf:
|
Thanks
|
I've compared my car (with an Injen CAI) to another P5 with just the exhaust, and mine is alot throatier because of the intake. The one with the stock intake was very "whiny" (as my engine was before the CAI) but mine had a deeper, more satisfying growl to it... :D Invest the cash and get a CAI for performance anyway. All show and no go is gay. :gay:
|
i cant get a CAI for my 1.8L but i am gonan order the AEM short RAm on monday for my ride.,
arul |
i must agree the injen cai is a big help in the throaty sound department. before i had my axle back on it was nice to hear the intake suck up the air and now its even nice to hear the rumble and the sucking sound.
jaisai01: i would say get the aem shorty and get a custom piece of pipe to connect it to so you have the little extra cool air from down lower instead of sucking up warm air from the engine bay. |
