well, the only thing i'd do now is take it to Mazda. Replacing your filter DOES NOT void your warranty. So tell them that you put this new one in, and it all of the sudden started to feel like it was backfiring. And don't let them tell you it's because of the K&N because that's . If no one else can come up with a better solution or thought on the problem, do that.

Screw that, don't tell the dealership anything, except it backfires.

Leave the K&N out of it, cause they are going to tell you its the cause.

Make them check the car out, if they find the filter in there, then say Ohh (it ran fine with the filter in, its just now started this problem).

yeah I agree, leave it in, but you don't HAVE to tell them. They CANNOT blame the K&N for any reason. The car should work no matter what filter he put in. It would be the same if he put in some cheasy brand. The filter DOES NOT matter. There's a law that states that a motor vehicle company cannot void the factory warranty if the filter is not replaced by an OEM filter unless they supply new OEM filters free. So basically unless they are gonna give you one free, they can't void your warranty because you bought an after market one.

What I meant was leave it in there, Just don't inform them of the fliter being in the car. This way they will hook it up to the computer and get the codes and find out the REAL problem.

If not and you say ( it started backfiring when I put this K& N in the car)

They are going to say thats why and tell you to run an OEM filter.

If you want really find out whats wrong, keep the filter issue to yourself and let them fiquire out what is really wrong.

Exactly... the first they are going to do is to try to make the problem go away without actually doing anything to fix it. Don't let them talk you into a corner. If you come across as knowing exactly what you are talking about, and dismiss any of their questions as "No, I tried that... I checked that too... No, that couldn't be the problem because I..." they will actually have to look at the car. With the info you give them, the filter is probably the last thing they'll look at anyway.
