Jetchip computer mod

Has anyone installed a jetchip in there proteges? I was reading at jetchip.com that gains of no less then 10 hp can be expected. Plus the price is under 300 bucks, this could be the cheapiest way to increase horsepower.

Do a search on the protege's ECU.

Generally these things due more harm than good. I did not look at that site but a lot of places will require you to send your ECU unit in and they will reprogram it with slightly different maps. On most cars you get a spike of power at a certain rev range. For example you could get a 10 hp gain at 6000 rpm, but you lose 15lb/ft of torque at 3200 rpm.

Also a protege's stock ECU over rides any signals from a chip or piggy back system mounted in line between the sensors and PCM(Some of these upgrades are designed to "confuse" the PCM). So if you send yours in, the one you get back will most likely suck, and if it is another piggy back system it will suck too. I don't know of a whole lot of ECU upgrades that do what they say, other than a stand alone, for a protege.
