I have been reading all these threads about hydro locking and all that and heard someone mention that you can take the cold air section of the Injen off to make it into a shorter less water suseptiable intake, Anyone have an injen know what im talking about?

I've never heard of someone cutting thier c.a.i. Unless you've already got an Injen, save some $ and get an AEM short ram. If you cut the Injen, that's what you'll end up with, but for an extra 100 bucks!

 

that wasn't my question, i don't mean cut it, i heard that u can *take* a piece off making it a short ram, but u can put it back on when the weather gets better

 

The Injen cai is one long mandrel-bent tube with a filter on the end. Thats it. Look at thier website.

 

not on all models...what YOU are looking at is the model for the 1.8 L motor...the one for the 2.0L motor is two pieces...notice the RED couplers....those go inbetween the tubes....

sir nuke, on ur 2.0 Injen, can u take it off and put the filter on the smaller piece (effectivly making it a short ram), if say, for some reason u needed to? (floods or some crazyness)

 

How often do the roads flood where you will have to drive through it, thus requiring the need to take a piece of your CAI off?

Complete submersion is the onloy concern, and extemely rare.

 

You could also get the AEM bypass valve. It fits the Injen, and should help even if the filter is completely submerged.

Yeah, i know what you are talking about....i did it to mine...you take off everything past the MAF....so you take off the second piece of pipe and the red injen band and slap the filter on the MAF.....and the filter sits right above the hole where the second piping goes down.....make any sense? look at Sir Nukes pic and imagine the filter on the MAF sensor and take away the second half of the intake.....It worked completely fine and it actually gave me a better throttle response believe it or not....thats why I left it that way.....o yeah i stuck the other sensor in the filter instead of leaving it hanging.....worked like a charm.

 

CitizenPro, did you feel much of i diff when u put the intake on the car? does it feel more or less powerful now that u "short rammed" it?

if it more power as a short ram why not just get one and save money?

 

There is barely any HP difference between the factory set up and the CAI kits, or the K&N filters, or the short rams, etc...

MAYBE a couple to a few HP, which is hard to actually tell by driving, and can really only be verified by running the car on a dyno.

To be able to say you can feel a HP difference between a "short ram" or a CAI would be entirely speculation at best.

In theory, the longer CAI should be the better of the two, as the short ram will be ingesting the warm air that is close to the engine.

Cold air is what your after, not warm air.

If anybody is considering installing any of these kits that are available, I suggest you do it primarily for looks, and secondary for any slight power gains.

the red connector that goes to your TB is upside down, should say injen on the top like the other shorter couplers i did that too till someone told me and i fliped it around..
