First off, I just want to say hi to everyone here in this forum since I'm the new forum virgin I've been a voyeur for the past 3 months and figured it was time to take this relationship to the next level

I just installed Injen CAI today and it was fairly easy (took an hour or so being that I'm not a mechanic and never modded anything on a car before.) Now, I have a few questions about the install that I haven't been able to find answers to by doing a search:

1) I mounted the overflow resevoir like it said on the Protege5Online.com site suggested, but I'm wondering whether the hood rubs against the top of the resevoir seeing that it seems to be quite high up.

2) After installing the intake, I noticed that the aluminum piping closest to the throttle body is just touching part of the engine where this rubber pipe and plastic bracket sits. Is this normal? Will it ever wear down or break given that the intake moves a little? I shifted the rubber pipe over to the adjacent plastic bracket so that it's not directly under the intake pipe.

This is how mine is installed, and I noticed that too. At first, when I would close my hood it would actually pop the lid of the resevoir open. I fixed this smply be turning the lid around, facing toward the firewall.

As long as it's not popping the lid open, I don't think the hood touching the lid is a problem.

Yeah, the overflow resevoir is mounted exactly like that, but i haven't had the problem where the lid pops open yet. Moving the lid towards the firewall may be a good idea though so that it won't do it in the future. Thanks!

How difficult is this to install for someone who has never done anything like this? Do they give good instructions? Will this intake fin a 2.0L ES sedan?

My friend has a green ES 2001 and I have the Pro 5 2002, both install the same. Took me an hour with the help of my friend.
The only thing that kept me thinking a bit was some kind of pieces near the strut bar...hmmm and the screws were so $%^& tight. (im not a mechanic)

Now, I think I will have to handle the oil changes myself...what do you guys think If I send the Pro5 to the dealer for an oil change WITH the Injen installed...

YEP, an novice can handle this install easily enough....I would HIGHLY recommend you get the instructions off of the Protege5Online.com website though...there are a few things there diffrent than the ones that come with the intake from Injen that makes the install sooooooooooooo much easier....

the THING near the strut bar you had to move with the TIGHT screws is the Purge Valve....yep...they can be a b_itch sometimes....just ask Tex! lol Mine came out just fine....here is how it looks all installed.

I have NEVER installed anything like this before and am so far away from being a grease monkey it's not even funny. I would say on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being most difficult), it would be somewhere in the 6 range only because I was super nervous when doing it. I agree with Sir Nuke that you should get the instructions from Protege5Online.com because it was really helpful. Taking off the stock intake was a breeze!

Best advice I would give is to read the instructions thoroughly and carefully (they are fairly well written) so that you can understand how the install will go. With both instructions, you can't really go wrong. Just make sure you screw the intake onto the Vibra-Mount and NOT directly on the chasis...that was my MAJOR mistake. Good thing I noticed after a quick spin. Phew!

My main concern which is why I started this thread is the fact that the pipe closest to the throttle body seems to touch this plastic retainer clip for these hoses that is attached to this little metal piece that is attached to the engine. Should I worry??

Looks great and I'm sure sounds great... but how much did you pay for it? Do you think it was worth the money?

From what I read so far, this Injen cai seems to be the best out there for our proteges... is there a best place to buy it from?

if you do a search on injen cai you'll probably find people asking questions about the cost.

on the injen site, it says it's like $375US

if you go to places like protege5online.com, i think i read it was like $250US.

seeing that i'm in Canada, and everyone knows that one canadian dollar is like 15 cents US at best. but i paid about $400CDN for mine. i think other people have said they've paid cheaper elsewhere, just do a search.
