Help - Clutch

I need some help. My friend and I were in the process of installing a new amp and sub into my 03 P5. We drilled a hole successfully into the firewall that was very close to the clutch.

When putting the cable through, some kind of spring just popped out. It is about an inch wide spring with a set of arms that would appear to be where it attaches.

I was wondering if anyone could a) tell me roughly what it might be and how to put it back or b) if the car is driveable (temporarily) without this spring.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
