Grill for ram air

If there are any fabricators out there, if you build this I will buy it. Please consider this for carbon or platic.

I've seen both of those systems, actually I think the one that goes behind the headlight is from Auto-EXE, on Corksport. What I'm trying to do is keep the Helmholtz resonator whose function is to increase and maintain low-speed torque, most SRI and CAI setups that remove this loose low end torque. Ya need good torque on the low end to get ya moving and good HP on the top end to keep ya there. With this grill, not only would we get cooler air at start-up and idle, but a ram air effect when driving...how could ya go wrong.

Here's a good article explaining the hemholtz resonator.

So do you have a pic of this ram air grill that AutoExe offers on Corksport? How much does it cost? Can it be used on the Protege sedan?

Go to www.corksport.com and look under 3rd gen Proteges, it'll be there. All Auto-EXE stuff is expensive since it's JDM....seems like when you add those 3 little letters you can increase the price by much $$$$$.

I've contacted a local plastic molding company that also makes a small number of body kits, including one for the Pro sedan, about the cost and feasability of creating this grill. Initial response from them was "shouldn't be too hard, not too expensive if we make enough of them." So for all you 3rd gen sedan owners, when I get all the particulars, I'll post them.

Thanks for getting in touch with me. I guess as soon as you find out more about the ram air grille, please drop me a line and give me all the details. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So have you found out anything more about this ram air grille? Heard anything from the plastic moulding company? What body kit does this company make for the Pro sedan?

Steve,
I've just about given up on this grill. Most of the people I've talked to about it have tried during their free time but no one is working on it as their only project as I don't have the funds to facilitate this. Also, the underside of the hood does not work well with this kind of grill as there is a reinforcement rib that runs along the front edge of the hood. Sorry I don't have any better news. I've been on the roller coaster of "hey, this should be easy" to "sorry, I just don't have the time", or "you might have to cut the hood for this to work." I was waiting for a solid yes with a prototype in my hands before I updated the thread.

If anyone out there knows someone who can do this, once again, I'll be first in line to buy only if it's not made from fiberass.

What do you use for the ducting, meaning, could anyone do it in their garage with relative ease?

Goldstar,
I've done this mod a little while ago when I ran upon one of your posts about it. It has worked great, but then I thought why not ram air. Then I saw this setup for the JDM Evolution and thought it just might work at pushing more air that is cooler into the intake, plus it looks just plain cool. With all of the "useless" ornaments being made out of carbon fiber, I thought this would be a good "usefull" item, what performance gain does one get with carbon eye brows? I'm not even saying it would work, but shouldn't someone give it a try. Wow, sorry, didn't mean to get on a soap box or anything. For anyone who hasn't done the Goldstar Modified Intake, do it, you will feel a difference. Thanks.

its cake...I went down to Car Quest (general auto store) and bought the aluminized "Fresh Air" ducting that is used to feed carbs...then ran it down to my modified block off plate where the fogs would go, and the other end pointed at my modified airbox (with heat shield, this is very important) and voila! I'll try to get some pics of it all this week...
